GazetteOnline.com : True test in Tucson

This past Saturday against Iowa State, Darrell Wilson (LB coach) filled in for Norm Parker as D-Coordinator. I'd say he did a hell of a job. I don't know how much Parker was available for preparations, but Wilson called a great game, and I would expect that he will do the same in Tucson this Saturday if Parker cannot. Of course, everyone hopes that NP will be back ASAP.

GazetteOnline.com : The Last Call -- The long ball

That's what I've heard around the always-reliable internet. I don't recall any major mistakes from DJK that would warrant this sort of reaction (which, although not necessarily uncommon in practice, is uncharacteristic of Coach Ferentz). However, Hampton's entire game seemed plagued with mental mistakes, and this one was one of the more noticeable (and arguably most serious) of those.

GazetteOnline.com : John Feinstein: Boise State "surely would have" beaten Iowa last year

Really? I'm sure you didn't notice the rest of the season. You know, the twelve other games that were played? CreamCrimson references multiple games that Boise State played in which they had trouble. You reference one clear outlier.

GazetteOnline.com : Ferentz: Maybe 6 or 7 true frosh

I agree with you Marc, in that KMM will likely not play this year unless he's truly needed. The WR corps is beyond stacked at the moment (DJK, McNutt, Sandeman, Nordman, Davis, Chaney, Cotton, etc, ie, people who've exhausted their redshirts). I know the staff prefers to play in the moment, but I don't think they'll throw KMM in unless they think he'd be a significant improvement over what's being seen. And if that's the case, by God, Kirk, PLAY HIM!!!

GazetteOnline.com : History says beware of your No. 9 AP preseason ranking, Iowa fans

Agreed. The only plausible way Iowa can return to the Rose Bowl is if they suffer one loss, and whomever beat them is not at number one in the Big Ten (ie, not Wisconsin or tOSU), but Iowa is still at number one in the Big Ten. That, or the Hawks play poorly but win all their games and get surpassed by an undefeated Big Twelve team and an undefeated SEC team (or maybe even an undefeated Boise State or TCU).

Sandbaggers in Cedar Rapids (Rapidian here), though, have a pretty good rep. That said, I think out of all the years I've been watching Iowa football (2002 included), this year feels good. So did last year, but oddly, 2002 didn't.

GazetteOnline.com : BTN analyst says Big Ten perception changing after bowl wins, expansion

No, they don't. They don't have to address the topic at all. DiNardo was pretty clear in that he thinks perception is improving. If he didn't think that, he'd offer a very political, non-inflammatory, bland answer. This clearly doesn't fall into that category.

That's better. I think German has some colloquialisms that we're not familiar with; my personal favorite would be "Only Christensen fired a grenade at Jan 40 yards Hilgenfeld." Unless this German variety of football is much more violent than the American kind.

I can understand the animosity toward neither Drew Tate nor JC6. They played their hearts out for Iowa, and were surpassed by someone better. So what? The only thing I had against either was that it always seemed like Tate's temper belonged in the SEC.

Good to see JC6 is succeeding somewhere. Just out of curiosity, what are the rules in German football? And do we know the signing details? Again, just curiosity. As an aside, I can't speak German either, so don't look at me for a translation!

Who? Who's that? In all seriousness, I think the team and a lot of the fans are taking the season one game at a time, particularly with the recent issues with personnel. Eastern Illinois first, ladies and gents. The football season is just as arduous a trek for the team as the offseason is for the fans.

I distinctly remember a skinny, 5'8" rent-a-cop getting run over by a 6'5" (he was taller than my dad, who is 6'4"), 275-ish Hawkeye fan and promptly getting tackled and arrested. My memory is a little fuzzy, but I think I remember the Iowans around me (who by that point had descended from the upper decks) yelling some unprintable remarks at the officers responsible for the more....enthusiastic...arrests. It was a wild, yet very enjoyable, experience, just to take in the scene from the front row of seats. Also, Marc, I can see this happening again. There're enough drunken Iowans at every game that this remains a distinct possibility (although not at Kinnick, of course).

I'm sure you mean "unblowing" the grammar, at least partially. This was my first Iowa away game, and is definitely my favorite (excluding bowls). The sight of the upright off that goalpost going out the Metrodome door (or, trying to) is one of my favorite in the world. Thank goodness TCF Bank Stadium is open-ended. The designers foresaw our needs.
