I used to read Austin Cline's blog years ago, but eventually grew irritated at his complete lack of nuance in anything he said or his interpretation of things said by others. It's Austin's way or the highway.

Signed. Anyone who might reasonably suspect there are other ways of looking at things beside through the Republican or Democrat lens should sign and decide accordingly.

I donated $500 to the Obama campaign. I was feeling the love and the hope and the change. Then the whole faith and Jerusalem nonsense happened. I plan on voting Green this time (despite problems there) and say adios to both the Democratic and Republican parties. Getting sand kicked in my face, again, has really changed my perspective. I wish every nonbeliever would join me so that we can show once and for all the power of voting in a block. I'm sick of being taken for granted, thrown a bone in speeches and otherwise ignored - or worse, treated like some diseased relative who nonetheless has a vote and most be placated minimally.

I don't.

If an atheist comes to me, I assume quite a bit about them is true:
I assume they have reasoned through topics like human rights, fairness, justice, and the importance of education. I do not assume they are liberal-minded or recycle. But I suppose I would get to that in conversation eventually and explore how they justify their position and I would consider what they say.
The point here is the kind of mind that develops and looks at god-belief in American society and rightly labels it as almost certainly not true, must have done the same for these other topics that demand logical reasoning.
Self-professed atheism is an indication that your mind works a certain way. And that is why I argue that the dictionary definition of atheism is the starting point and not the end of what being an atheist entails.

Yeah, you got me. I made it all up. But seriously, after about the tenth time I attended a PZ Pharyngula adoration party on his blog I stopped. Maybe I missed the few where someone was critical. BTW, do you know what a circle jerk is? I suppose you could be a circle jerk attendee, and apparently you are, but a whole circle jerk all by yourself? You are talented.

I'll agree that someone needs to tell PZ when he is being an idiot. No commenter on his blog ever does. That Pharyngular circle jerk is nothing but "Yeah, awesome PZ!!" "We love you PZ!!" Tiresome. Maybe he feels comfortable telling everyone they are wrong because he never hears it himself.

I think sometimes that the lack of cohesion and direction among atheists is due to the relative immaturity of the atheist movement. Nonbelievers have been active in America since the earliest days, but the continuity of these activities is terribly spotty. This is why atheists today in America often think they are doing something so new and trendy. Let's face it, many atheists you see on blogs and message boards are pretty angry about one thing or another. It's why they are there to begin with. When we all feel comfortable in our skin and stop the incessant "There Is No God!" chant, we can get down to the business of calmly and confidently acting like a movement and address things that really matter.

But the boat is made of wood, man, how the hell do you keep a fire-breathing dragon? I mean two? I'm gonna get the eye twitch thing if I keep thinking about it.

I can't ever keep their alternate history timeline straight, will there be dinosaur paddocks on board or were they all allowed to drown to make way for lions and such? Lessee, Earth created with humans and dinosaurs, but then the dinosaurs die in the flood or something? What about pterodactyls? I mean, they could have roosted on the roof, right? I'm confused.
Well, I hope they get it built. That sounds like a hoot.
