So interesting! I got this one from the library and returned it unread because the subject really doesn't interest me. But everyone has been raving about it so I think I should reconsider.
I've heard a lot of people saying this didn't come close to living up to Girl on a Train expectations. So disappointing! I doubt I'll be reading this.
I haven't read any of her books but I'd definitely like to. The way you described her getting into the humanity of her characters reminds me of Gillian Flynn's books, especially the one where the girl's family was killed when she was young (can't remember the name of it...).
The thriller that keeps coming to mind every time someone asks for recommendations in the genre is The Kind Worth Killing. I absolutely LOVED that book and for me, it did the thing where I didn't see stuff coming. In a thriller, that's the best feeling for me. I liked Behind Closed Doors and will probably get to The Breakdown eventually. I'm glad you liked it!
This sounds really interesting! I like books like this, too.
I love seeing you around so often these days! I didn't know about Story of a Girl - that's very exciting news!
I really loved these books! They were just so much fun.
I was not a fan of this one, sadly. I've loved all of Giffin's books in the past, but I didn't like either sister and couldn't find any redeeming qualities in either one of them. I just didn't connect with the book at all.
I'm glad you posted about this one with your honest thoughts because I'd become convinced by all the hype that I'll love it. I'm also fascinated by cults and was REALLY expecting this to be more, as you said, like Gillian Flynn. So I'm thinking I'll still get to it eventually but will definitely temper my expectations.
Jill (Rhapsody in Books) has raved about this series, and one of my co-workers is currently reading it. I am thinking I should give it a try.
