Commentary Magazine : Voters Not in Mood for Lofty Promises

Obama's hosed out a hundred million on this attack line and it's gotten him zippo. Tomorrow both campaigns have to file cash reports with the FEC, it's going to be very interesting to see how much each side has on hand. I think Obama spent himself into a deep hole with this one.

When Kubrick's "Shining" came out I was very excited to see it, but I left the theatre deeply disappointed. The movie was nothing like the book; Shelley Long was a terrible choice to play "Wendy" - her performance was as flat as her lifeless black hair, and the Danny kid looked more like a stuffed animal than living human being.

These revelations are damaging enough to force Politico to address them at least. It's kind of funny in a pathetic way - the only group of people in America that buys into the myth of an objective MSM are the lefty Journalists who know better.

My favorite scene in JP2 was the bit where, just after petting a baby stegosaurus and driving its mom into a rage the researcher chick yells at Goldblum for lighting up a smoke, saying "Don’t light that. Dinosaurs can pick up scents from miles away. We’re here to observe and document, not interact. "

I liked JP3 too. You can definitely see the Spielberg "Don't hurt the animals" taken to the ludicrous extreme in his current TV effort "Terra Nova". A tiny colonial outpost of beleaguered people living in a walled compound 85 million years in the past who lose a few of their numbers to rampaging beasts in every episode, walk around armed to the teeth yet never manage to kill a single one. If you're going to make a serious effort to colonize a territory the first thing you do is burn the surrounding jungle back a safe distance, then wipe out every predator in a 30 mile radius so you can plant crops and move around with the expectation of not being eaten at any moment. Plus you ditch the stun guns and get weapons that work.

A hundred years from now (assuming America still exists after the left is through with it) will Hollywood villains still all be Nazis? PC Doctrine places most of the real bad guys in one protected group or another so there's not much left to choose from. Nowadays you've got Evil Bankers, Evil CEO's, Evil Congressmen (when the GOP controls the Legislature, Evil Presidents when they control the White House) and Nazis, Nazis, Nazis. I'm looking forward to seeing Captain America, but I am definitely getting tired of Nazis.

I always thought "Salem's Lot" his best work, although I liked the original 1978 version of "The Stand" better than the bloated "updated" reissue put out in 1990.
Big Hollywood : Is 'The Walking Dead' Terminal? Yes. Because It's Stupid.

I think it has a lot to do with the failure of north-eastern urban libs to write a story about southern working class people. They write about hunters but have probably never hunted a day in their lives, so they get it wrong. Look at the end of the season premiere episode: what kind of dad lets his son walk up on a wild animal? The redneck guy seems like an experienced hunter, no way he'd allow that. This is one of the problems I have with TWD - the writers make the characters do stupid stuff to get the plot element they want. Season 1 - redneck brother, handcuffed to a piece of threaded steel rod on a roof top then given a hacksaw cuts off his OWN hand, instead of the threaded rod (which is designed to be cut with a hacksaw). Later episode we had two chicks fishing fly rods upside down from a canoe like they were bait rods (no casting, just sitting holding them) and blathering on about "Dry Lures" versus "Wet Lures". They all camp out on a hilltop in tents, no defensive perimeter, then they're surprised when zombies attack in the night as they all sit by their blazing mountaintop fire in the pitch dark (wonder how far away that fire could be seen?). This is what happens when city people try to portray working class or rural types. They don't know hunting, they don't know fishing, they don't know working with steel so they get it wrong. I'm trying hard to like the show too, but the stupidity makes it tougher by the day. As someone else mentioned a while back: they get the Zombies right and everything else wrong.

Big Hollywood : 'Pontypool' Review: An Innovative Take on the Undead Film Genre

Neal Stephenson used the neuro-linguistic virus approach in his Cyberpunk novel "Snow Crash", published in 1992. The premise is that certain kinds of language are hard wired into the brain and act as code, sort of like the BIOS of a computer.

Big Journalism : More MSM Hypocrisy Concerning Fast and Furious

Hmmm....CBS has picked up the story that the other MSM outlets have spiked. Maybe there is a shakeup in progress at the Tiffany Network. CBS may have discovered a vast pool of potential new viewers out in Red State America and might be getting ready to challenge FOX for a share of them. Seems unlikely but you never know. One thing you can be certain of; there's a brand new crack in the media Dam.

Big Hollywood : Trailer Talk: 'Walking Dead' Season Two

I'm very excited for this, I enjoyed the first season despite its myriad flaws - Chicks sitting in a canoe holding flyrods upside down and fishing them like bait while blathering on about "Dry Lures" (no such thing). The racist rooftop dude handcuffed to a piece of threaded steel rod who - when gifted with a hacksaw - chose to cut off his own hand instead of the threaded rod, which is actually designed to be cut to size with hacksaws. And all the yackety-yack about relationships near the end. This show is still a lot of fun and I'm willing to hang on for another season.

Big Hollywood : 'Terra Nova' Review: Go Back In Time to the Dawn of Lame Clichés

It depends on what I'm suspending disbelief for. If it's to set up an awesome action sequence, fine. But if the writer is forcing his characters to act like morons to serve an ideological point of view, I'm out. BTW - if you need to make your characters foolish to preserve your ideology, might that not mean yours is an ideology of fools?
