It is a hard job with low pay, which is why they hire directly from J-school. Young and cheap. Was a daily newspaper reporter at one time. Went directly into PR after a couple of years. Major pay increase (and commute).
But i think PR beats reporting by far. It has as varied a clientele, if you can call it that. It pays better, too. But you never have the comraderie you had as a reporter with the rest of the newsroom staff.
You have to watch your own back!

Lying on your resume is serious and not a "little white lie." If you are assigned to a client who needs your expertise and you don't have it, you risk the company losing that client.
To the subject of tweets and other social media activities, before you hit that "Post" button, picture your boss reading what you wrote.
Oh, and remember, no matter where you are, you are probably on camera.

Badly written article. Like walking into the middle of a movie and figuring out what is going on.

It is clear that the writer assumes the reader is proficient in content marketing. Big amateur mistake.

PR is content marketing

I apologize to anyone who already knows this, but I think some context needs to be added to this article:

Note that most of the wacko ideas originate in the House of Representatives? That is the "People's Chamber," which reflects the mood of the American people. Its members serve for only two years. The Senate, which has less wackos, but they are louder, is the "Chamber of Good Judgement," meant to temper the current mood of the people. In order to do this, a Senator's term is three times longer than a member of the "lower" chamber.
The President is to implement laws passed by Congress that he signs. The Presidency is designed to have ultimate responsibility to the people and that term is limited to two four-year terms, if re-elected.
So, I do not worry too much about the House (or its committees) introducing legislation that is extreme in nature or downright evil. It has to run the gauntlet of the Senate Committees, full Senate, where a bill can be filibustered to death. Once it makes it through that, the President has to sign or veto it. So, what the House does is, IMHO, all show and no substance (except for the budget).
Thank God for President Obama. No Drama Obama will not let radical right wing legislation get through. That which is attached to "must pass" legislation still has to be implented by the President's cabinet members, who can drag their feet for years!
Finally, if wacko legislation passes and is signed by the President (e.g. attached to a budget bill) a lawsuit can be filed and the Supreme Court must review the constitutionality of the law.
So, take heart! Let the Sunshine In! And be happy for all of us that there are checks and balances in our government!

At least one whole generation has not experienced "1984" and gotten its lesson on privacy and submission to authority. They need the messages now to solidify their skepticism of their government. We need a reminder that, much of what we shrug off today, could enslave them in the future.
Remake the original, not the remake.

"doing lunch" once was a way to seal a deal, there is no time anymore!
