Bearing in mind our wealth on this small island ,problems like that demonstrated in this article should have been sorted out years ago. It is a shame that we still have citizens having to face such difficulties and other denial of basic needs after over fifty years of independence. God has nothing to do with this This is a natural occurrence ,probably aggravated by man's thoughtless actions .This does not however excuse those gods in the corridors of power from putting things right.

http://trinidadexpress.com/ : Are we awake to the real scandals at hand? | Trinidad Express Newspaper | Letters

The letter above conveys the underlying problems caused by personal greed, lack of consideration for others by people in responsible position without morals. Moreover it reflects that the lesser mortals of our nation have had the wool pulled over their eyes, and having swallowed their dose of political sleeping pills are still sound asleep.

Easy to really understand why the rush to get rid of such and individual from a country.. They realize how dangerous a man with his record and obvious intentions could be to their country .Especially where they have a similar problem to us, where controlling criminals has become a significant problem. It would appear that many citizens and responsible officials here, do not really accept the dangers this man, and his bunch of fanatics pose to this nation. This is obvious by allowing him a passport to travel to mingle with others who thinks like him. He should be restricted in his movements here and not allowed the freedom he has. He has forfeited some of his rights by his failed exploit in 1990 for which he was never punished. thus leaving himself open to be recognized as a perpetual threat both at home and abroad.

Sorry to have to say this Abu, but the word Muslims have become degraded by what you tried to do here, now the barbaric actions by the members of ISIS ,and what has happened today in Canada. My advice to you, is to strip yourself of that white frock you wear ,denounce your connection with theses local so called Muslims by disbanding the local organisation.

Abu boy, There is now little chance of you ever being considered someone of importance here by our politicians, Looks like your days of significance are numbered. Don't try any thing at all. They got their watchful eye on you and your associates. Behind closed doors, they are working on your past ,present and future .LOOKS LIKE YOU ARE IN FOR A BIG SURPRISE.

I really don't believe hat the Express is doing this on purpose. I very much suspect that editors now have no choice ,as government inspectors are now sitting in, and censoring any comment that they consider will reflect adversely against those in the corridors of power. This has now become noticeable in other newspapers.

There is no chance of the Prime Minister ,or any politicians letting their guard down on this matter. To do so could mean terrible suffering and death to most of our citizens being such a small island with a small population. I feel certain that all heads of states are taking the Ebola outbreak as one of the most serious diseases that has struck for many centuries, because of delay in its detection ,and deadly outcome.

Something is drastically wrong within our nation. Here we have what people throughout the world will consider a paradise. We are the second riches Caribbean nation. the richest being the Bahamas , and yet we have young men and women willing to sacrifice their lives by fighting an unknown enemy in another country. Now we are suppose to have elderly men ,citizens of this island ,recruiting mercenaries. How n earth was this allowed to happen here?. This is a bad reflection on our politicians past and present, and the police and those responsible and in control of our National security. Our politicians cannot standby and watch our nation become a recruiting camp for militants and potential terrorists. Drastic measures must be immediately taken to halt ant further advancement of what is going on here amongst many innocent citizens. Politicians and other responsible citizens cannot just standby and allow the expansion of this sort of thing. Our politicians and other responsible citizens must make this a priority for taking the necessary required measures to nip the process of further recruitment in the bud, because something needs putting right as soon as possible.

http://trinidadexpress.com/ : Bakr refused entry into Jamaica, detained at airport | Trinidad Express Newspaper | News

TubalButler2. The political system here, where the elite black or white become millionaires overnight may only change when we run out of our natural resources. At the present time, it really does not matter which party is in power because they are all after the Treasury funds. This is distributed to the benefactors, who are our politicians, their families and in most cases their already rich associates by infrastructure projects, and the 'kick backs' offered and linked to such projects. This system fuels the division between rich and poor here, which is growing wider every year. We have lots of money ,but there is still a galloping generation of more poor people than ever before. Abu Bakr presence or what he attempted to do ,would make no difference. If he was in power he would be doing exactly the same thing as a dictator which will be worse..

I suggest that if Abu Bakr wants to be forgiven, clear his conscience ,and live a somewhat peaceful life until his demise, then rest in peace that he revert back to his original religion ,dump his dream of ever being a dictator here, and abandon his Muslim terrorist gang .by dismantling the organisation of fanatics. He must do this by an affidavit on TV. He however, may still not be forgiven by those who are still seriously affected by his misdemeanour in 1990.

Well said, but I hope that you too ,share my suspicions that there are still many more sympathizers here who still recognize Abu Bakr as a hero. I am referring particularly to those in authority who allowed him to parade with a bunch of his followers down Frederick not so long ago. Moreover ,as they say the apple does not fall far from the tree in that his son was reported recently as making threats to the government .He should have then, be arrested and ask to clarify the meaning of his outburst.

Great .This is just the sort of treatment be dished out to men like Abu Bakr .He is lucky that he was not put behind bars as was done in Venezuela to some of his Muslim comrades. Moreover, he should not be allowed a passport to travel anywhere. He made his bed he must now lie in it.. He has taken advantage of his escape from prison here and he and his bunch of so called Muslim fanatics have continued to be a threat to our governments and the nation .

http://trinidadexpress.com/ : A new approach to justice | Trinidad Express Newspaper | Commentaries

There is an urgent need for first time offenders to get involved in community service. and the government must also provide more meaningful rehabilitation programmes . Judges must be more considerate with petty crime offenders. They must bear in mind that poverty is usually the cause of many crimes. The government must do more to rid our nation of poverty that leads our young to commit crimes merely as the only means of survival. Having said that, those repeated offenders of serious crimes must be treated in the appropriate manner depending on the nature of the crime committed . The government must re-introduce execution for those committing pre-mediated murders. We must have a deterrent in the form of the death penalty to prevent hardened criminal from going the whole hog by killing others because of personal greed. Most of our judges know what is right and what is wrong. They however ,have a tendency to be inconsistent when dishing out punishment to the ordinary man and show too much leniency to offenders from the upper class. Finally, this must be put right in order for our scales justice to be seen as correctly balanced.

You won't get a response to this question from the police or the politicians. Sooner or later this matter will be swept under the carpet. I suspect the reasons for this is because the person or persons involved in this are wealthy or perhaps members of the upper class. Its part and parcel of the corruption that exist on this island. Moreover, it now would appear that these are the same reasons why we have heard no more of the investigation into Jack Warner or the murder of Dana Seetahal.
