The Phoenix Real Estate Guy : Real Life Real Estate Stories: The Angry Caller

Seeing as I have a FANTASTIC agent with whom I just sold a home (in MI) and he ALWAYS answers his phone, I just have to shake my head at this. That poor guy - and your poor ears, Jay! ;) Choose wisely, people - you're still in charge of your real estate experiences. If you're not happy with your agent, FIRE him/her and get an agent who is responsive and ethical. It makes all the difference in your experience!

The Survival Mom : Survival Skills: Try This Quick, Easy Way to Make Jerky

what are the chances I can stash jerky in sealed mylar bags with oxygen absorbers? I'm *this close* to picking a dehydrator for jerky, vegetables, and fruit dehydration, but I don't want to wreck my work by assuming I can store it this way. ;)

The Survival Mom : About That Glenn Beck Show...

While I'm not a fan of Mr. Beck, I think it's ridiculously cool and fantastic that you got to talk about food storage and prepping on his show. Seriously cool. :) I hope none of the scenarios that we're preparing for ever become reality, but if they do, I'll have you to thank (in part) for helping me prepare my family. :) Thanks for what you do!

The Survival Mom : 10 Unusual Foods You Should Have in Your Pantry

yeah, "in nature" is somewhat in debate, since nearly all soy in the US is GMO and monkeyed-with genes by Monsanto really aren't "in nature." LOL But what I'm most concerned with is the estrogen factor - I can't have any extra or I throw blood clots, which is not pretty. :( But I've managed to build a pretty decent FS in spite of not using soy and avoiding GMOs, for the most part. :)

I'll be honest - the only reason I've contemplated powdered butter is the fluctuating (right now, HIGH) price of butter. But if it doesn't melt - is it *really* butter? ;o I do get real cream from a farmer-friend of mine, and I'm darned close to making my own butter that way, so maybe I can get around the powdered butter, even yet. :)

Happily, I've got several of these stashed away already - but *never* to the TVP. I adhere to the belief that soy is dangerous and just like HFCS, no "tiny amounts" of poison are acceptable. You mentioned the butter powder reconstitutes & forms well in the fridge - how does it *taste*? We "use what we store and store what we use," so before I buy it, I want to make sure it will taste good. What's your family's verdict?

LeadingSmart : And We Wonder Why They Call us Judgmental

I love the sentiment, Kyle. We currently have a group who are protesting similarly to the video and we see them as we head in to work every day. They have "statistics" on their signs (XX-number of babies saved, etc.), but I can't help but wonder how much easier it is to hold up signs than actually DO something like hold the hand and sit with people who are in pain, or work to change the adoption system in this country to make it easier for "unwanted babies" to have homes. More importantly than any of that, though, is how we treat those who are making this decision and having "the worst day of their lives." I think that bespeaks more of how we love and serve Jesus and others than anything else.

The Survival Mom : Survival Survey: What do you do with old jeans?

I generally keep the old ones around to patch the newer ones (matching shades, of course). I've found my ability to cut up and then satin-stitch patches (around the edges and on the inside of the jeans) is quite good and my husband has been happy to have them patched when something wears out on the newer jeans. :) Of course, right now with our adjustment to live in the desert, NO ONE is wearing jeans around here - I'm not sure that even in the throes of January we'll put on more than shorts/skirts and Birkenstocks! ;)

Old School - Self Reliance 101 : how to sharpen a disposable razor

I tried this yesterday, Damsel - IT WORKS! Seriously - I've had the same razor blade on my razor in the shower for the better part of 4 months. I used to dip the head of the razor in olive oil to preserve its sharpness, but that got messy and annoying. I just figured I'd keep using the same blade until I couldn't take it anymore. The razor is used twice a week and never leaves the shower which means that the microscopic rust that dulls razor blades has a chance to flourish. :P I ran the razor up my arm yesterday 10 times and then proceeded to shave - it felt like a new blade! :D I was delighted! I told my DH about it - he looked at me skeptically, but I think he'll try it the next time he thinks his blade is getting dull. We both hate spending money on razor blades, b/c the best ones are the 5-blade ones and they're never on sale or have a decent coupon to purchase them with. :P

LeadingSmart : Beer and Bible

Awesome, awesome, awesome. I am so glad to read all of this - my heart has been broken for the LDS and I can appreciate only in part how hard this mission field is. You absolutely have my prayers - we're on field here in purportedly the 2nd most unchurched city in the US - although with the stats from the SLC and western-UT area, it makes me wonder if our city is infinitely more churched than we thought. ;) I love your spirit and how much this is a unique calling - when we Christ-followers understand that Jesus transcends time & place & that His grace is bigger than our cultural understanding of what it means to follow Him, we'll be in a good place. Until then, for those who are critical, give some grace to those who do things differently and trust that Jesus is in the details (and not the Enemy). Blessings & prayers from MI.

Absolutely love it. In a place like Utah, where LDS theology requires perfection (because Jesus' sacrifice isn't sufficient to save us) and alcohol is verboten, it's edgy enough to catch inactive or disenchanted Mormons and those who don't have any religious affiliation but might wander in to a bar and have an honest discussion.
