Thank God for those adorable spaniels, because being able to scroll back up and look at cute dogs was great when I took a break from reading to let the rage-cloud dissipate.

Yes! I am so excited about the Evil Dead series. You can skip the first Evil Dead, though, as Evil Dead II is pretty much a remake of the first, but with the horror / comedy dialed in (the first is more of a straight horror flick).

Though, uh, fair warning : the Evil Dead movies are super gory. Like, buckets.

Oh, and I almost forgot : Shutter (the 2004 Thai original) is a pretty great ghost-revenge film, with loads of creepy J-horror style ghost action. Recommended!

For great ghost movies, I'm a big fan of the Japanese film Pulse (Kairo) from 2001. It has one or two of the absolute most teeth-grindingly tense sequences I've ever seen. On the other hand, when I've shown it to other people, I've either gotten "I could not sleep at all after that" or "that was the least scary movie ever." Apparently, there's no middle ground.

Oh, and how about The Others? Straight-up gothic ghost story, and it's excellent. As if it needs to be said : don't look up the plot, just rent and loooove.

If you like old horror movies, I have to recommend "Vampyr". 1932, early sound film by Carl Dreyer. It's weird as hell, super dreamlike and eerie.

UGH Watcher in the Woods. On the Disney VHS tapes I would rent as a child, it was always part of the pre-movie compilation of clips from other Disney movies and even the five seconds of footage freaked little me right the heck out whenever I just wanted to watch Flight of the Navigator or what have you.

I will always watch John Carpenter's "The Thing." To me, it's the perfect horror movie. Implacable, unknowable adversary, goopy 80s special effects, and characters who act pretty much rationally and make good, well-reasoned decisions ... and it doesn't help.

I am 100% on board for the booger collection. Your dad sounds great.

(My dad also has a weird sense of humor. When he was working two different jobs, a lady in Office A had an upcoming birthday, so he bought a card and had everyone from Office B sign it with really personal sentiments and made-up rememberances as if they actually knew her. Dad humor all day, every day.)

Came for the Farmer Boy reference; did not disappoint.
