The Survival Mom : Prepare for the Unthinkable with Doomer Lit

The first book of SM Stirling's 'Change' series titled 'Dies the Fire' is an excellent exploration of surviving a complete collapse of technology. He even mentions non-fiction books worth hunting down as source material.

The Survival Mom : 5 Prepper Errors That Make you Look Dumb

'Zombies' are a convenient way of short circuiting the basic psychological response to 'hey, that's a fellow human being I am about to kill'. If 'they' are already 'dead' it gives you license to engage in *ANY* behavior necessary to make the 'problem' go away. In other words, it is an escape mechanism.

Maybe it's something to do with being male?? And my wife observes that successful long term relationships seem to have this dynamic... My first (now ex-wife) was also an exo-therm. Hmm...

Big plus for maps: No batteries. Second plus for maps: They don't give away your position in the dark. Especially if you use a red or blue lens over your light.

My problem is that I am an active exo-therm. I usually end up too warm and kick the blankets off. Even while camping, I will flip the sleeping bag open to cool off in the middle of the night. My wife loves the fact I keep her warm in the middle of a BC coastal winter with snow up to your butt...

The Survival Mom : Could This be the Ultimate TEOTWAWKI Shelter?

It sounds like it's was created in England. If you could buy one, I bet the import duties would be stiff. As well as making the various Federal agencies go 'Hmm, now why is a civilian buying one of these things? Let's pull his/her records and see what else they have bought recently...' The only downsides I see are you need a steady power supply for the inflation blower, and a large pumpable water supply. Both of which may not be available in the location you eventually decide to erect it in. Otherwise, yes, very neat bit of tech.

The Survival Mom : Survival Survey: How do you apply the "Rule of Three"

Check around your local supermarket, light industrial area, or almost any dumpster for old shipping pallets. These are often discarded, but are good seasoned dry wood in good lengths and thicknesses for a good fire. Most pallets these days are pine, but you still find ash, oak and maple pallets from time to time. A few minutes work with a hammer or pry bar and a saw, and you have enough firewood for at least one meal.

The Survival Mom : Essential tools for disaster recovery

Add chisels, gouges, sharpening equipment, files for metal and wood, hacksaw, bit and brace. Given time I could come up with more. A good knife is *never* out of place. Like the original poster, a Leatherman Wave is also part of my EDC. I back it up with a Swiss Army Knife,a Pocket Wrench from Lee Valley, and Mini Maglite.

The Survival Mom : Who do you want in YOUR Colony?

Most of the 'missiles' that have been fired at Israel are based on the old 'Katusha' unguided rocket design. While they have killed a relative handful of people, Israeli retaliation has always been with the very latest US supplied military hardware, and has killed thousands of Palestinians, Lebanese, Syrians, etc. There have also been several *documented* cases of Israeli special forces sneaking over the border of the 'bad guy du jour' to fire rockets back into Israel as a pretext for a subsequent Israeli 'retaliation'. Please consider that while the Israelis' have bomb and blast shelters to retreat to, their neighbors do not. For a contrasting point of view, think about what life in the Occupied Territories, Gaza, or the refugee camps must be like. Apply your own drive to survive and protect your family. Now add forty years of occupation , discrimination, poverty, starvation, and indiscriminate retaliation. Non Serviam - I will not serve.

The Survival Mom : Who do you want in YOUR Colony?

"So I would say in my colony I would want people with Amish know-how who were confident with weapons, workabees who just need to be told what to do and the job will be done, some ex-military men for protection, a strong leader who had the ability to organize and maintain a status quo of cooperativeness and unfaltering commitment to ensure survival, and some Survival Instinct Moms with their innate sense of protectiveness and whom I think will be the real leaders in a SHTF situation." Not to be too critical, but it sounds like you want a host of people to do the heavy lifting for you, while you recline in splendor. May I suggest you rethink what you can offer to a 'Colony' before making a list of those you wish to serve you. Non Serviam - I will not serve.
