The military junta in Egypt is headed by the Field Marshal Mohamed Hussein Tantawi; when asking any Egyptian about SCAF they will mention Tantawi. So yes, there is a "face" to the new regime more or less

KABOBfest : Post-Revolution Egypt Needs Orientalist Perverts

I must say I love the bit where the author makes mention of the "veiled women": "Islamists prominently among them, their veiled women fondling silk underwear and feeding pizza and Diet Coke to their children" Notice the words - "their women" - meant to bolster the typical orientalist view of the "Islamists" (whatever that made up term means) and how women are seen - as objects, owned by their male companions.

KABOBfest : VIDEO: Woman Arrested for Wearing Niqab

As a female, who mind you wears no religious covering whatsoever, I feel disgusted by this blatant act of xenophobia being paraded as 'law' in order to make it seem 'just' or permissible. Anyone defending this madness as being acceptable due to its being 'law' is nothing more than a braying fool who would allow an unjust law to be pushed upon a minority group (i.e. Muslims who choose to cover themselves via the Burqa, Niqab etc.) rather than question its logic and motives. Whether any of you agree with this religious attire or not is of no matter - any comment belittling anyone for choosing to dress in accordance to their religious beliefs is childish. Also, there is no need to compare the attire to costumes - it really is not necessary. Unjust laws are meant to be broken - and should be. This asinine law being one of them.

KABOBfest : Lebanese Singer Arrested for a Song

I didn't like the song per se, for stylistic reasons not content. It was 'old' as far as I know as well. Asinine government action here, nothing new. Also, they gave him more publicity and now many more have heard the song. Good job Suleiman, that's sticking it to him.

KABOBfest : Egyptian Pop Music Takes on Israel

Egyptians are not "finally interested in Palestinians", this statements cry's ignorance. Egyptians for the longest time have always supported their Palestinian brethren; pre and post-revolution. I was part of the first Gaza Freedom March in Egypt almost 2 years ago and I saw it with my own eyes. Petty and ignorant statement there "Salty", try again.

KABOBfest : Challenging the Narrative on Bahrain

If not anything else, I take issue with monarchy. The fact that we have a mainstream body unashamedly supporting and calling for an almost religious type worship of the Khalifa regime is disturbing. I have long disliked the Bahraini regime and its collusion with the West; the fact that said regime is a monarchy has yet to instill any "skepticism" in select individuals.

KABOBfest : Itamar Killers Found?

Great summation of the thoughts of many in respect to the Itamar killings. I cannot wrap my head around how this could have happened so easily in a heavily armed settlement; it doesn't help, also, that Netanyahu decided to expand Israeli settlements soon after the killings. Again, great job Mohammad

KABOBfest : Mona Eltahawy is Wrong

You lost me at "...any sexist..." and then again at the childish "...jealous much?..." remark and then again "...what have you ever done for the good of the MENA region et al..." Oh these Mona fan-girls and their asinine "sexist" spittle. You did not refute his article, a single premise or the contention behind his piece - you went on a fan-girl tangent in support of colonial feminist Mona Eltahawy and this I find truly pathetic.

KABOBfest : Where's Gaza's No Fly Zone?

Firecrackers vs. precision weaponry funded to the tune of roughly 3 billion annually. The comparison is laughable to say the least. It has little to do with "..the Jews..." and more to do with the perversity that is Zionism. A plethora of "...the Jews..." actually stand fervently against Israel, including a number slated to travel on the Freedom Flotilla II this May as a part of the European Jews for Peace; they will sail to Gaza with aid in order to end the blockade on the besieged territory.

KABOBfest : The Price of the Divide on Libya

We can respectfully disagree, I have no qualms with taking this avenue. I appreciate your article, as I previously stated. We do not agree on what defiles a revolution and this, I believe, is why we are at an impasse. As the days move forward the tension shall build, irregardless I wish the best for all those working fervently to liberate their brothers and sisters from tyranny. I truly wish the best for the people of Libya.

Souad, you have long since made this pseudo-debate about me when I have noted on numerous occasions that I am attempting to make this case as factually based as possible. Yet you latch on to the idea that Leftists cohesively agree with my premise. I'm not a Leftist. I never said I was a Leftist. I don't have partisan alliances in respect to Leftists, Conservatives, Liberals etc. My walls are not cold, they are intellectually pessimistic and questionable. My eyes are open, as well as my heart; I have listened to both camps and Libyans on both sides of this tense spectrum. I pray all the martyrs who have sacrificed their lives in order to break the ties that long subjugated them under the rule of tyrannical regimes rest in peace. I respect those who have sacrificed their lives, be it those in Libya or otherwise.

It's a blunt, factually statement. This argument was never personal, yet personal anecdotes being delivered by a number of people continues in nudging it into that direction. I believe you know this as well as all those reading. If we want to refer to the martyrs collectively, that is fine. My comment in respect to said martyr was not from a place of superiority, nor was it patronizing - thus it was not condescending - "...to behave as if one is conscious of descending from a superior position".
