PZ is a troll. The post was clear, I got it, it still doesn't make it right. He's more concerned about scoring oppression points and ally cookies than being a decent human being. He's been playing the role of "single minded vicious ideologue" for so long he started to believe his own hype. I'd never advocate shunning, but I could get behind letting him rot behind his monitor with the rest of his "horde".
If everyone is going to have to continue kowtowing to some nebulous, dogmatic moral standard, maybe we should all just go back to church. That's sarcasm of course, but the point remains. What's so hard about "if you don't like something, don't support it"? Everybody's different, and if anyone tries to force their views on someone else, I consider them just as bad as organized religion. Especially for something as innocuous as this. FFS, how can so many "smart" people be so damn dumb?
When will we all learn we must stop using things such as similies, idioms, and imperfect analogies to describe and/or compare things? When everyone is THIS smart, and THIS sensitive, we just don't have time to see the forest for the trees!
Imagine if we cast a wider net, what would be left with? If we held everything up to this standard, we'd lose a lot of good things. It's entirely possible to support a message, and hate the messenger.
I wholeheartedly agree with this. I don't need a moral majority telling me my behavior is "problematic". I'm not online to be some beacon of new wave righteousness. I'm here to read interesting blogs(like your, vjack, and yours, cephus), meet interesting people, and learn things. If I wanted someone to hold me to some unknown or unrealistic standard, I'd go to church.
