'arry is right in that the figure of those affected is those who live in the administrative area of Bristol City Council and that a lot of low paid workers come in from other authority areas.

While I can't, and won't, speak on behalf of any political candidates, the TUC is quite clear; we want the living wage for *all* workers, not just public sector workers. Low pay is low pay no matter who you work for; we recognise that Bristol Council can show political leadership on this issue, by not just paying it for all staff - whether directly employed or through contractors - but also by encouraging Bristol's large private sector employers to pay it too.

This method has worked very well in Greater London, and continues to be used by Boris Johnson - when he announces a rise in the London LW rate, it is always accompanied by announcements of private sector employers who are paying it too.

While, as a non-party affiliated union, the TUC is not supporting any particular candidate in the mayoral elections, it is disappointing to us to see two candidates who both have done so much to raise the issue of the Living Wage engage in a public dispute over an issue where they agree with each other! Of course, during the course of any election, candidates will argue over their disagreements and differences, but on this single issue, their policy platforms are exactly the same. It doesn't matter who said it or came up with it first - what matters is that we don't squander this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make a meaningful difference.

We will continue to campaign for the Living Wage and bring together Bristol's communities to campaign for it, not just for BCC workers but for all of Bristol's workers - an aim supported publicly by both Daniella and Marvin.

We hope that Daniella and Marvin can overcome this futile squabble over a policy area where they have virtual unanimity, and make a real change for Bristol's communities.
