I\'m a perfectionist myself, so whenever I\'m changing themes my mind\'s all over the place, trying to spot and fix every little faulty corner. I\'m not forcing myself to do so, though. Having a beautiful blog makes me feel better too. It\'s more or less why I like other bloggers who do the same, as well.
Our blog IS a reflection of ourselves whether we like it or not. It\'s a subconscious procedure, can\'t explain it with words. And even if we try to cover it, it will still be a cover we made ourselves; it\'s a vicious cycle, really.

I was going to agree with most thing you said until I realized that you idea of a “concept” is WAY TOO VAGUE. Talking for the triumph of good over evil is way too generic (and personally I always hate it when good wins in the end so you hit a nerve there). What I am talking about is the recycling of way more specific and complex concepts in the point where it’s literally the same story with different characters and setting. Because, personally, I don’t think that just changing the characters and a few plot points changes the story. This happens mostly to adaptations, though. Original productions are an exception and as EVERYTHING has an exception, I’m not talking about them. I actually never talk about exceptions. I think it’s a digression and a post filler. Maybe that’s something I need to work on.
Before I talk about originality, I want to point out that tv tropes are nothing but classifications of situations in the way we viewers see them. Those specifications, though, are so generic that we end up grouping together ideas that, in the end, are not so similar. A tv trope covers a broader range of concepts that it should and that limits the space where originality can grow. Sure, organizing things is good , but not when we’re doing it wrong.
Now, I mentioned that originality is subjective, didn’t I? Maybe we are talking about different types of originality here. I personally label some anime as original when others don’t and vice versa. That happens because we all have a different theory about originality. Mine is that originality doesn’t particularly mean something never-seen before but also a different approach of an existing concept. Before you say that this contradicts my previous statement let me tell you that, in my opinion, changing the characters and those few plot points is not a different approach. A different approach is a bigger change in the flow of the story.
Also, I don’t think that even if a few people won’t like it, an entirely original concept can be a bad one. It’s always nice to see what new stories a mind can produce even if they don’t become a selling success. Nevertheless, when money comes in the way, it’s not a matter for us to discuss. I digress.
Haha, we may disagree in certain things about blogging but I don’t think someone in their mid 30s can’t aniblog. My syllogism goes one decade above that ^^;

But still, I question Durarara's, and similarly any other anime's, amount of randomness. Nothing can be random in a written scenario solely because all events are carefully schemed to lead to the story's pre-determined conclusion. Anri, for example, was going to be saved either way because otherwise the plot couldn't move on. Anri's whole existence is not random to begin with. Just notice the fact that Anri met with Mikado and Masaomi and they even went to the same school when they're supposed to live in a so-called "vast and chaotic" town; it's a complete set-up. Not to mention that all three "happened" to be the LEADERS (not even simple members) of the city's three largest power groups. In the end, every important person in the city is a protagonist. I don't remember any of the main characters not being special for the city. Totally not random at all.
What I also question is a city's uniqueness in the subject. I mean, ANY setting could be just as "random and chaotic" as long as it fitted enough people to be so. Schools in school anime also look like miniature cities. And villages could be just as random. And not just smaller settings. In Fractale, specifically, the whole island hosting the Fractale System was a melting pot of diverse personalities and cities. My point is that the setting doesn't matter; it just has to be used appropriately and it can be a catalyst to the story's development regardless of its size.
And, lol, Venezia was indeed like a huge playground. By the 5th episode of the second cycle I wasn't sure if everything was taking place in a single city anymore.

Strict in what way? I don\'t think we need any more admin dictatorship. And I think that the hosting issue is irrelevant? What difference does it make, really?
P.S. Of course I am... For both... I\'m just on a break because my finals start next week.

Call it bad phrasing but what I\'m most bashing about is the competition and not the competitors: \"...I believe it brings the worst side of anibloggers out...\". What I\'m trying to say is that I don\'t really think the majority of participants are bad people. But I do believe that, even to a small extent, the tourney\'s competition makes them more sinister. Then again, there are also people that are like: \"There\'s no way I\'m gonna win so I\'m just gonna be a goody-two-shoes\". Obviously, those are bloggers that the tourney can only prove beneficial to.
Your tourney suggestion\'s pretty thought-through. However, I question the reception it\'d have and if anibloggers would actually be interested in organizing a tournament to promote other blogs unless they are in need of advertisement as well. :idk:

D\'awww, I always admire the way you write a post even if I have no idea about the subject so you\'ll have to try really hard to get on my \"NOT INTERESTED\" list. And what do you mean I am too kind? Did you really read the whole thing? It\'s tarnished with a crapload of hateful remarks. I didn\'t even take the time to write something good about it! Heh, I\'ll honestly feel pity if you go back to THIS gloomy you before the anniversary.
I\'m laughing with the drama too. If it can\'t be useful, it can at least be entertaining! OMG! You actually find some use for it /hides

My what an honor, I refuse to accept that I just accepted your refusal.
P.S. (aka Plasma Sword) I have seen you right write longer comments than this.
