"Like George says, it’s not the words, it’s the intentions. It’s the thoughts and the context of the words that really do the damage"...
To expect people to dig deep for the "intentions" behind the words is not being as responsible as you can be. Words DO matter. People need leaders who focus on loving as they speak with and about others for whom they have stewardship. You DO have to be careful with your words. It's better to say it well the first time than to have to backtrack and battle for clarity when someone is offended or hurt by HURTFUL or distracting words. Only very strong people give people the benefit of the doubt when it comes to interpreting intentions. I guess that means that instead of even thinking about asking anyone to control their language, we develop a stronger sense of what it means to be loving, thus sending out the kinds of words that can't be misconstrued and don't need to be reframed.

"spend more time around and interacting with positive people."
And they don't have to be cheery, laughing, silly people! But they have to believe in you...the best you. They have to be able to see that person through the suffering present you, and be able to speak to THAT you.
When I go to church I feel that. Sundays are getting harder and harder and I resist going...until I walk through the door and start talking to friends, watch kids run around with their friends, and just sit down and start singing.
Another thought: nature has it right. Slow down for a season (winter) and stop striving and start relishing simple things when it just feels natural to be a little numb and sleepy. We push too hard ALL the time! Wintertime seems like book-reading, cocoa-sipping time...even if you work 12 hour days..you can give your goal-setting a break til Spring!
Thanks, Yomar!

Caroline,
My comment got lost! Go Blogger! I LOVE your blog! I wish I'd be more proactive collecting stories when my older relatives were still alive and kicking! But I wasn't.!! Thanks a million for writing.

My comment disappeared...hopefully I'm not repeating myself. Hate when that happens!
Essentially I said that even though we all aspire to the level of intimacy we witnessed on and for a while after 9/11, I think the reason that we don't is that it's emotionally exhausting and we naturally need time to regroup and recharge. But I also believe it's an easier thing to attain when we have fewer relationships...ones that we can go deeper with.
Thanks, Yomar!

Because my memory fails me very often, I'll ask again. Have you published a book yet?!! You should publish one for New Year's if you haven't.

Danny,

I have to admit it's all a bit overwhelming. I've been at it since Sept. 2010 and am now just getting used to the fact that it's not just about writing! But I take it a step ( aka problem) at a time. I don't have a clue what I'm doing half of the time, but it's fun and rewarding to stretch myself. I swear it's like learning a foreign language!

I'm going to HAVE to save this post. Then I can refer back and check things off.

Thanks for the tips.

Betsy

How is Flickr different from Twitpics? Is it better? Has all the connections you mentioned and it seems like a good quality picture.
