@scuzgob, nope it doesn't. What i meant was you benefit from both his rules, one benefiting you if you get the charge off, and one if you dont.

His fearless is oly his squad, thenproblem is at such a s,all squad size it can lead to the survivors dying to it if you dont win combat. also dont forget creed allowing a unit scout rule, with him and Al'Rahem you cannhave 2 blobs more mobile as I did at the weekend. There is a slight downside which is his pllatoon being off the table, and thats a fair chunk of your forces not around if the enemy begin torrenting you.

The problemis knowing how big a force to have coming on vs deployed to make sure your deployed forces last uontil the outflamkers arrive hopefully in the right place... Even more essential in spearhead where a bad roll can bring them on well out of play... As i've had happen a few times annoyingly even with an astropath.

@ Frost, good to hear, i'm curious to see how others find the multi task blobs. and if others find the autocannon a batter investment than the lascannons. all feedback is well recieved so I can continue altering loadouts until perfect.

@ Cap, thats what happened with my testing, the autocannons would be shrugged off by paladins or vehicles and i'd suffer next round, whereas the higher Str lascannons allowed me to pen and at least stun vehicles to stop them fighting back. autocannosn work well in mech lists where you have tons of other higher str shots, but in blob lists where theya re your only high str rnged, you need them to count.

@ Atrotos, no worries, wasn't taken as critiicism, sorry if my reply sounded offended,

I know its personal preferences, so my articles might not be to everyone's tastes, but it has worked very well for me in Tourneys Vs a wide variety of opponents. The lascannons themselves proving to be a big part of my success.

To counter the mobility problem I've tried Al'rahem and loved the potential he brought to my games, appearing and destroying so many enemy units or tying up offensives or stealing rear objectives.

if anything I'm just happy if my ramblings give you guys some ideas to try out.

I've tried autocannons, and relying on them didn't go well for me, paladins still happily walked through their fire, and I like to thin down things before the blob hits them in HTH.

My mistake on the price of the lascannons too, got confuse for s second while typing and put in the wrong value. But i still like the price enough to take them.

I've actually found myself loving the lascanons, they haven't yet failed me in the role I need them for, bowing up transports, IDing 2 wound models (Oblits are a prime example, as are Draigo wing... with autocannons I found the dreads were suffering glances more than pens, but with the lascannons I as penning them and actually removing them from play rather than stunning.

Hey,

I do indeed equip my main battle blobs with 4x meltaguns, meltabombs, power weapons, lascannons. The idea is it becomes able to fill many roles which alter as I need. Facing a combat army I sit back and shoot with the lascannons ruining transports, then as they close I pepper them with fire, and on the turn I charge (if they don't get me first) i fire my meltas and assault chopping away with power weapons.

It seems expensive but having the flexability in blobs seems to work for me, and allows me to change the playsyle each turn based on what I need as i found when the blob just had meltas once it killed something it could be badly out of place and out of the game for usefulness. having lascannons allowed them to continue firing and also thin termies down before they hit my ranks or afer capping objectives in turn 4 to let them stil lcontribute on turn 5+.

Its a tough call to include long range guns in the blobs or not, but when all of mine can do either role as required I found it a blessing.

No offence was taken, so dont worry, just enjoying seeing how you run the losts compared to me. What ratio do you use of infantry to vehicles?

@ Warflail, while I do agree MB’s are point sinks, I’ve learnt they have more uses than just anti walker. Although having 4 does make walker fights go much quicker. I get them for extra anti tank shock meaning I can fully block off objectives form people trying to get tank shocks in on my guys while avoiding meltas. That and blowing up vehicles while their surrounded by blobs to make the player cry as their models are removed as nowhere to place them.

I used to use autocannons, but when running an all infantry list I found they were not killing enough, thus I needed something to take down vehicles with more reliance (BID and S9 seems to do this when you x4 it).

All good comments guys, love the feedback and opinions!

Also the extra commissar allows for much greater options especially in 40 man blobs.. kept as 1 big blob he adds some more power weapons and stops jaws from removing the lone commi then assaulting and ruining your investments (or mind war) and in occasions where you are facing a more shooty opponent with light armour, making 2x 20 man blobs allowed me to pop even more of their transports while still being hard enough that they wouldn’t want to take the mini blobs in combat (9 PW attacks or 12 with Counter attack still hurts).

Blobs can work as a hybrid, I’ve tried (more for fun) a 3 blob with 4 chimeras to carry PCS’s and CCS, and 3 Deathstrike, although swapping these for 3 Manticore would increase the effectiveness at least 10fold as one shot just does not cut it unless everything under it dies (And you hit a lot!).

(Hum, why wont the comment system allow me to post this all as one reply since its smaller than some others)

Hey, I'm the author of the article so thought I'd confirm a few things. Firstly i am writing as a full infantry blob list, no vehicles just 164ish bodies on the table for 1850 points.

I agree with sir biscuit that 40 man blobs are essential to give you some staying power, but I'm in favour of including heavy weapons in the blobs, the reason being to keep them safe and also to help in KP missions to give the blob a role of sit back and make the enemy come to them.

I have tried most weapons (covered in future parts) but did find he lascannons let me shoot up light vehicles if needed and then begin advancing turn 2... that one round of shooting sometimes making the difference after removing 3-4 vehicles.
