<title>Atheist Revolution : Right-Wing Atheists</title>
<link>http://www.atheistrev.com/2010/03/right-wing-atheists.html#IDComment60111016</link>
<description>Supposedly, the conservative blogger AllahPundit from HotAir.com is an atheist. I used to follow him on Twitter until I realized he was just as willfully ignorant as any other conservative wingnut. I have a hard time understanding atheists who are comfortable with the Republican party. It&amp;#039;s not just the religious (and racial and homophobic and xenophobic) bigotry that&amp;#039;s often spewed by members of that party. It&amp;#039;s that they are perfectly happy to operate from what they know to be outright lies. I consider myself to be a skeptical show-me-evidence-or-shut-up atheist. Operating from what I know to be a lie isn&amp;#039;t something I could do. There were plenty of Republicans spouting that rubbish about Obama&amp;#039;s birth certificate, &amp;quot;Death Panels,&amp;quot; health care for brown people and that Obama was planning to indoctrinate every elementary student into &amp;quot;TEH SOCIALISM&amp;quot; with a TV address who knew perfectly well they were spewing bullshit. People who just aren&amp;#039;t stupid enough to believe any of that were repeating it anyway, like Newt Gingrich. Newt might be a rightwing idiot, but he&amp;#039;s neither crazy nor stupid enough to believe in death panels, but he supported the idea anyway, at least in public. I also used to have a hard time understanding black and hispanic Republicans, until I realized they were letting their unusually strong religious beliefs override their common sense. You can&amp;#039;t say that about atheists, so I&amp;#039;m just baffled why any would identify with Republicans. Republican and devoutly religious gays and lesbians confuse me as well. As for people who call themselves &amp;quot;libertarian,&amp;quot; I sincerely hope that&amp;#039;s simply a case of people who don&amp;#039;t understand what it means. I don&amp;#039;t mean to start a flame war here, so I won&amp;#039;t say more than that about it. </description>
