LookStat - Official Blog : Microstock Goes to the Dogs (not the Cats)

An interesting refinement would be to see a comparison of "kittens" vs. "puppies." But I get it. It's the emotional attachment we in our culture (Who are "we" anyway?) to dogs. Another view would be if the cat vs. dog sales hold up over different countries. So if all of you are going to switch to dog photos because of this... it's time for me to switch to cats to cover the "long tail" of the market <heh>.

LookStat - Official Blog : Microstock RPI & Image Formats (and why it's not as cool as you might think to be square)

Eye-opening analysis as always Rahul. While I would have expected the 1x1 sales to be lower or lowest, I did not expect to see the horizontal (landscape) so far out in front of the vertical (portrait). The explanation of web vs. print helped resolve that in my mind; thanks. I doubt many agencies would accept a 1x1 version of the same image being submitted in other aspect ratios. So is NOT shooting in multiple orientations on Ellen's list of what we do wrong? ;-)

LookStat - Official Blog : Microstock Photography Trends - Active Seniors - What They're Doing in the Photos

Whoa! What an eye-opener. There's a lot of good data here, and it creates some suggestions about how I should be researching markets. (and this post is NICE AND SHORT).

LookStat - Official Blog : Looking at or Away from the Camera? (microstock stats from active seniors analysis)

I really appreciate information such as this. I support the conclusion; shoot both. And maybe the additional directive is that a "looking away" version leaves room for ad copy. You're doing that anyway, right? ;-)
