Hi Angie. First, thank you for your beautiful words--I am now even further a long in my process and have even more silver highlights--some days it is still a little surreal to me, but most days I am really loving this newer, more "natural" version of myself. I am glad that I cut it short, as it has absolutely eased my transition--I too have had people say things similar to what your mom said, including in my own family, but thankfully not my immediate little unit of me, my husband and my girls. Still, sometimes it is strange that at 70 my mom is still full on brown via the hair dye and me, at 45 have the shimmering silver splendor coming in. I think I felt ready and confident enough to push forward into this journey at this point in my life and didn't feel deterred by those kind of comments, but I also believe that if I had tried earlier, I might have been--I needed to grow in confidence and security--I am working on getting my blog up and running-life seems to keep getting in the way, but it will be entitled Silver Strands: Musings on Growing as I Grow Older--I'll be sure to share it here when it is up and/or on the GITNB Facebook page. Good luck in your journey--
Deborah

Ugh! They probably don't want parents to have the ability to forward information to outside sources that might dare to question their support services or educational plan. Red tape and obstacles, always! Wishing you strength. Keep on fighting girl...

So glad that you are blogging & sharing. As the mother of a 13 year old, struggling in the midst of autism & puberty, so much of what you have written resonates with me. We had to leave the public schools here in Georgia, because despite the "autism" in her diagnosis, my daughter was considered too "high functioning" to qualify for most services & the inclusion model here left a lot to be desired. So, she is now in private middle school where she is a square peg happily fitting into a square hole. But we sacrifice a lot ot have her in this school, where she will remain throughout high school as well. Your IEP's sounded a lot like ours did here, when my daughter fell into the low end of the low average range of testing, but we were told that low average is still average, hence she didn't need continued support. It's a mind boggling game the educational system plays with our kids as pawns, and I'll never understand it.

Anyway, keep blogging & I"ll keep reading for sure. I also added you to my Puzzled blog roll. I think your voice & story adds something new to the conversation.
