Big Journalism : Correcting the Progressive Spin on My Defense of the Marines

Wake me when they piss on the corpse of a baby or when they cut out the liver of the dead and eat it warm. THAT would be horrific behavior. Pissing on the corpses of Taliban scumbags, who shove little girls back into burning schoolhouses for being insufficiently covered, is maybe uncalled for but not something to get outraged about. The Marines will subject them to whatever disciplinary measures they've set up and that's that.

Here's a good explanation of Newt's popularity: GOP revenge fantasy.

Gee, I can detect YOUR sarcasm. Maybe Beck's just more subtle. And it's not an alcoholic haze, he's trying to grow a goatee. Makes him look all haggard and stuff.

Haven't decided. Bachmann, maybe. Maybe not. If Newt is the candidate, I will pull the lever for him, but on that same day I'll count the Republic lost. Actually, I'll count the Republic lost no matter who wins the election, because I agree with Glenn that the gubmint is too corrupt and has too much leftward inertia to be of any use.

Glenn's not looking for perfection, but he IS freaked out by how the Tea Party, who is supposedly totally anti-progressive, is fawning over A FREAKING PROGRESSIVE with an R after his name! It's not down to Newt vs. Obama yet. We can do better than Newt. We HAVE to do better than Newt. Reagan wouldn't recognize our America, so his prescriptions, which were fine for the 1980s, must be adjusted for our perilous times. Besides, Newt isn't 80% behind us. He thinks he's Hari Seldon, Galactic Historian. If elected, he'll turn on us so fast we'll think Obama's still in office.

They'd rather make Glenn out to be a race-card player. Much more interesting than the minutiae about Teddy Roosevelt vs. Obama vs. Newt.

Evidently he'd rather support Bachmann or Santorum or (holding his nose) Romney than Obama. Which would be evident to you if you knew sarcasm when you heard it.

The Left has us trained but good to react viscerally to racial talk, regardless of meaning or context. They've got us trained to think that how an utterance sounds is what an utterance means. Conservatives have got to stop using the left's assumptions about how language works: Bill Bennett, accused wrongly of racism. Rush Limbaugh, accused wrongly of "wanting the country to fail."

So it's down to Newt or Obama already? Primary's over? Votes all been cast? Of course it's not about race. It's about recognizing sarcasm.

He didn't make a racist charge. He made what sounded like a racist charge, but he was being totally facetious. Glenn's never gratuitously called anyone a racist. Why would he start now?

Glenn is supporting Bachmann or Santorum. He says that Romney is also a big-gubmint progressive, but not as bad as Newt. He played a fake, sarcastic race card. WHAT ELSE?

Come on, peeps. The race card was totally sarcastic. He's saying, "Hey if you want to vote for a progg, why not vote for Obama. What, is it about the race?" SARCASTICALLY. You can disagree about whether Newt's progressivism is as bad as Obamas, but don't act like a lefty and react viscerally to a part of what he said instead of getting the point he actually made.

Big Government : Beck’s Out of Control Lies About His Role In The Shirley Sherrod Media Trainwreck

It looks like Beck has hired away one or more of Breitbart's people from a Big site, and Andrew is understandably feeling betrayed. So now he's looking at his past frustrations with Beck as indicative of Beck's supposed two-facedness. My analysis of Stranahan's arguments is here: http://proteinwisdom.com/pub/?p=3708 BTW, saying that "Beck does good so why attack him?" isn't a valid argument. The issue at hand is whether Beck is a LIAR LIAR PANTS ON FIRE. Stranahan fails to make the case.

Big Journalism : Political Relativism: Realistic Radicals vs. Rhetorical Radicals & the Art of Miscommunication

Alinsky was worse than a relativist. He didn't care one way or the other what the truth was, he was merely interested in the gamesmanship involved in upending a current power structure and replacing it with another one. He was well aware that the new people in power would commit the same abuses as the old people, and he didn't believe in any kind of utopia. He just dug stirring things up for the sake of stirring them up, and he was extremely good at it, and furthermore, he may have dedicated his book to Lucifer but he didn't believe in any devil or god apart from his own cleverness. And yes, he would have had little use for true-believing ideologues like Shabazz or anyone else like that.
