Telecompetitor : AT&T Smart City Framework Taps IoT

The Smart Water Application seems like it would benefit whole communities where water rates are rising rapidly. Given the current climate change outlook, the cost of water could increase significantly in areas that are already impacted by drought conditions.

IBM Cloud : A deeper dive into mobile cloud computing

You said "More and more businesses are offering omni-channel solutions to engage customers and enhance their level of satisfaction." I believe that part of the reason why Mobile Cloud applications development will thrive in 2015 is due to the addition of Wi-Fi connectivity -- now available in many smartphones and phablets. Certain types of enterprise mobility applications can be greatly enhanced by high-speed wireless broadband access.

Tech Cocktail : Cloud Computing: Where It's been, Where It's Going

You said "One concern that has slowed, but not stopped the growth in the cloud, and which will continue to be addressed in the future, is security." Many savvy IT leaders are addressing their organization's security concerns by adopting an Open Hybrid Cloud model that includes both private cloud and public cloud benefits within one integrated solution.

IBM Cloud : Why the contract between IT & the business needs resetting for cloud

You asked "Do you agree or disagree that these are holding back IT?" I believe that it's a "skills mismatch" that's currently holding back progress at the more typical legacy corporate IT organization. The CIO or IT manager understands what their Line-of-Business executives want from them, but many lack the required skills to assume that strategically elevated new role.

Tech Cocktail : Meet The Challenge Cup Austin's Hottest Showcasing Startups [Reader's Choice]

Zack, thanks for sharing this insight about the recent Challenge Cup event in Austin. I'm curious, what's the criteria for being included in the "Smart Cities" category? What is your definition of a Smart City? Also, are any of the Smart City start-up projects being funded or sponsored by the local municipal government?

http://www.ragan.com : 10 reasons PR pros should love (and use) LinkedIn | Articles | Tomorrow

Toby, I've also been a member of Linkedin for more than ten years (there were ~130k members when I joined), and I agree that the value has increased over time. However, it my opinion, most legacy PR professionals don't seem to appreciate the participatory requirement to ensure success on the platform. They merely use it to promote their clients' press release. In the same way that many PR agencies still have their account managers send out unsolicited email to journalists that they've had no prior contact with, I often see a similar old-school mindset being applied on Linkedin. Are you seeing something different?

Knowledge@Wharton : Transmedia Storytelling, Fan Culture and the Future of Marketing - Knowledge@Wharton

I have a review copy of Andrea's new book -- it's a welcomed addition to the topic of Transmedia Storytelling, because we've had few guides that truly focus on the "how to" challenges that most people encounter in the beginning of their project.

http://www.ragan.com : Content marketing surging as a brand strategy, survey finds | Articles

Finding and attracting the qualified candidates to hire is going to be a major challenge for those who need to expand their existing talent puddle of savvy content creators. Many large companies are going to be dipping into the same market with a limited resource of experienced practitioners. Therefore, I would expect that both salaries and benefits will quickly rise as a result. My point: if you haven't already started your recruitment outreach, then you're likely already behind your competitor peer group.

SmartBlog On Leadership : Have you ever personally had to fire someone or lay someone off?

Unless you're firing an executive that has a multi-year contract, I have found that it helps to remind the person that we are all "at-will" employees -- you are on a two week contract (that's renewed every two weeks). Moreover, when you think like a self-employed person who works on two-week contracts, you're less likely to be unprepared to be terminated. Meaning, the firing process is complicated by the fact that employees typically are under the illusion that their relationship with their current employer is something more than what it really is in reality.

SmartBlog On Social Media : How to use LinkedIn to jump-start your job search

It's amazing, to me, that people are still writing books on this topic. Hard to imagine that anything new can be said -- that hasn't already been said, when Tom Peters and others defined the concept of personal branding more than a decade ago.

SmartBlog On Social Media : Social-media followers: Quantity or quality?

Jesse, given your description of Zelda I think she would be a perfect fit for the role of a typical account executive at an Ad agency or PR firm. She could "leverage" her acquired list of "friends" and send them regular unsolicited emails until they begged her to stop. Isn't that what shallow people schooled in the bygone era of mass-media do when they discover social media platforms?
