A typical full-length animated film (90-minutes) takes anywhere from two-three years in the pipeline to produce. At Pixar, it's longer (up to five years). Yes, the animation style is simplistic, which reduces the production time, but even so, these are not overnight projects. Two years is not that long at all.

The reason for Season 3 being 13 episodes was simple. At the time, there was no guarantee the show would continue beyond that. By doing 13, it brought the series total to 65 (26+26+13). Sixty-five episodes breaks down into thirteen weeks of five episodes apiece, which is the number that makes a children's animated series attractive for syndication in other markets. The broadcaster can program 13 weeks, then start over again. Do it four times, that's an entire year of programming. It's a traditional model.

Season 4 was 26 episodes. Season 5 is scheduled for 13 as well. If it proceeds without any further breaks, that means Season 5 will end (barring any hiatus weeks) in early October (October 3 or 10, depending on if it is preempted by Friendship Games on 9/26/15). That leaves almost three months to start broadcasting Season 6 episodes, which at this point must be well into the production pipeline.

Again, following the model, if the Season 6 order is 13 episodes, that brings the series total to 130 - or 26 weeks of Monday through Friday stripping for syndication.

More will emerge this weekend, I'm sure.

Chris:

At this point, you are arguing with a gale - all sound and fury, no substance. No one can change another's mind, only they can change their own. The simple fact is, he is happy laughing at a character with a disability. As much as he rants about trolls,, that publicly defines his character.

I wish you well. Namaste.

Actually, "derp" is a pejorative term that is a substitute for the term "retarded." In an able-ist society, of course it wouldn't be considered problematic or offensive to those who don't have the diagnosis or have someone they care about who does. It's outside their realm of experience.

Engaging in hyperbole ("Anything and everything can be considered harmful to someone...") is just deflecting, as is the implication of "we never meant any harm." Saying "we never meant any harm" is rarely a successful legal defense. But, hypothetically, sayyou were right. If MLPFiM introduced an episode that included a Minstrel pony, who did a stage performance and whose cutie mark was, say, a performer in blackface - would that be acceptable, because it was never intended to specifically harm anyone? I'd wager a number of people would say otherwise.

The humor of the character of Derpy is based around people laughing at her disability - she's considered slow, clumsy, dim-witted, unable to communicate effectively, etc. Some people take offense at that. So ask yourself this question - do you find it okay to laugh at a character with a disability? You're the one who has to be ultimately at peace with that answer and with the sort of person that paints you to be.

Let's see if I can explain this. If a term is considered a pejorative - that is, offensive in some way - by the group of people it refers to, then it if offensive to use the term. Period. It doesn't matter if your intention isn't to cause harm. If the other person perceives harm in the use of the term, then you shouldn't use it.

Complaining that the other party should just "toughen up and deal with it" so one isn't inconvenienced by having to change speaks more to asserting one's own ego, rather than to any sense of right or wrong.

2014 - Year of the Horse
2015 - Year of the Goat (or Sheep, depending on the country you are in)

You know, I keep trying to say this at cons (tried it again at Ponycon this past weekend and the editor of of Horse News tried to shut me down by yelling at me and physically intimidating me). If Bronies are unwilling to police themselves and tell the knuckleheads who do the cringeworthy stuff to tone it down, their antics will continue to color the perception of the culture to the rest of society. Are they the reality of the group? No. It's an amazing subculture, full of incredibly creative people. But I run a positive website and I have a hard time justifying it to non Bronies, because to splash caused by the actions of others.

He was going to BABSCon, but had to drop because of a commitment to a play in LA. Figure he'll hit that next time around.

And yes, he is going everywhere, so it's not as big a get as it used to be...but, hey, they could use the draw in Tampa.

A fan of the show, but not a Brony. Makes sense. It does seem to become more extreme with each look. Of course, every time I point this out, people reassure me "Oh, no, this is just the work of a few vocal, nasty ones, everyone else ois really all sweetness and light." I'm not seeing it, though.

Show is well crafted. Beautifully written. Well performed. Amazing animation. And frankly, a really questionable fanbase at times.

And Jen, you are how old?

The target demographic on this show is 6 to 11. Not your age. Get the point?
