First off, the blessing. It's either going to go to one assault marine Sgt.'s, or it's going to my Vanguard Sgt. Turning any one of those guys into a mini-captain is fantastic for my overall battle-plan. Any one of those teams suddenly having a promoted Sgt. does wonders for their overall killiness; You do not have to kit out Sgt's just in case for his blessing. I've used it tons of times on a stock Sgt with a Power Fist and the guy is evil. I've also tossed Storm Shields around onto each Sgt and it was nice, but not necessary. If you are running multiple Devastator squads, and/or Tactical, then the value obviously diminishes as instead of 100% usefulness you now have 50%, but with a hybrid list like that you need to look and see if he even has a place in the list.
The range of his aura is perfectly fine. Playing DOA, and I'd say BA as a whole, is an aggressive experience. Using the Sanguinor and an Assault Unit together is brutal. A 12" range would be nice, but it's not a breaker. I pretty much always work with the helping-pack-mentality the Wolves use, so properly using Sang's aura is no harder than making sure my Priests are covering the lines.
Sanguinor's not exactly a cupcake when it comes to killing him either. Ok, he is T4, but he's also Eternal Warrior, with a 2+/3++ (as you said), and he has a very high initiative, good strength, and works as a perfect character assassin as well. He can take out the Wolves token Thunderwolf Lord on the charge, or being charged, rather handedly if he's placed his mark on the wolf. If you are running Dante in the list as well (which isn't as crippling as 500 points would sound in a 1750+ list), then both their marks on one target means Sang will win well over 90% of the time on his own. I have broken plenty of Deathstars with Sang and another squad, and knocked out plenty of tooled enemy characters with him - he's a lot tougher than you'd think. Now, if the question is him catching fifteen Long Fang krak's, or a Plasma line, or what-have-you, then you either placed him incorrectly or something really wrong went down in your battle lines.
I suppose in the end it comes down to playstyle and local-meta. I've tried your DOA lists before and they just didn't work for me. It had a plus in it's favor versus mech, but fell down easily versus other armies that can punch you in the mouth. I have no doubt they work for you, so perhaps Sang is the same. He works with how I play, and is counter-intuitive to how you run.

I had thought to use a librarian as the leader and with all the nice +physical stuff he could do like MoH or QS, he'd make a perfect Pavoni. The Purifiers seemed no-brainers as the Pyrae, what with all the Human Torch action going on. I actually thought the Strike Squads could be used as a good melting pot of the cults thanks to normal Grey Knight abilities and Warp Quake; You could have Athanean and Corvidae reading minds and futures telling where the enemy units were going to land, Raptora kinetically charging the bolt-shells, Pavoni weaving a squad-spell to increase the strength of their unit.
I really liked the idea of adding cult symbols to the models as well. From what I could find from all the books they were: Athanean - Third Eye Symbol, Corvidae - Black Raven Head, Pavoni - Colorful Feather, Pyrae - Scarlet Phoenix, Raptora - Outline of a body with a Kine Shield overhead; Like the LucasArts symbol I'd guess.
I wasn't going to touch Scibor's models though. Forge World was going to be my bet. MK IV armor seemed perfect with a little green sculpted scarab put on the central chest-vent. Add a little plasticard prong on the helmet if you want to truly match up with the Heresy drawings.
I had planned to run a Libby with his 8 Purifiers in a Stormraven (De-teched a bit to be a Stormhawk or Stormbird), 3x10 SS, and 2 dread's counting as Cataphracts. I had eventually planned to fill out more points with non-marines as the Prospero Spire Guard.
Sadly it fell to the wayside when I just couldn't really enjoy any combination of GK army list. Whenever the next Chaos Codex comes out maybe I'll be able to give it a real go then.

Seriously though, go with the Dark Eldar. The list looks like loads of fun to play even before tweaking it a bit, and I'd love to see them painted up.

Seriously though, I love those Night Lord models. (And am waiting to see...SneakyDan I believe?...the Thousand Grey Knights). I run DOA as well and found against my gaming group the Libby + Melta Guard seriously underwhelmed. I run a more choppy guard with an Ep with UR/SS and they have gone much better for me. Does the Lance+Guard seem to pay off better in your games?
All in all, good showing for a first game with DOA!

Crying about other people crying is equally annoying. Then the readers get drug into it, and now we are crying about people crying about people crying and we become that 'other' website and then....aaaugh...feth...need beer, less thinking. Brain ow.

OTOH, I'm sorry, but 'articles' just like this are the reason I keep away from that 'other' forum, and would hate for someone new to see this rant as one of the first topics they read. I actually agree with pretty much everything he says, and have championed the Counts-As army in multiple postings over several sites, but there was no reason for this to be anything more than a (rather long) reply to one of the many other Counts-As articles that have been on the site in the past two weeks.

And Gx, people use a lot of units simply because they like them, not every game has to be WAAC. Some of my favorite games have been the 'silly' or 'unfair' ones (like ripping GW's Zulu idea, and just trying to survive for five turns against endlessly repeating Tyranid Hordes.)

I like mathhammer to a point. It can make for an interesting discussion, and give you an idea of how to hedge your bets with certain actions and match-ups. What I hate are the people who take it to an almost mythical canon state where anything that runs counter to the sliver of percentages is downgraded to an almost non-existent state, which would be understandable if you are talking about chances of a third or a half, but when you are talking 1/20 versus 1/21, it just gets silly. As Berra said, 'Lady, I made it to the top by never overthinking nothing' [sic].
