Hi Catie, yesterday I had a lovely long chat/vent with a young couple who have an autistic four-year-old. And the topic that people tell us that our autistic children will be okay and get on in life and that they'll get better with age. I think as parents of autistic children we've all been in the company of well-intentioned people who know very little about the condition and think they are being positive... I'm more of a realistic person and as I sit here I can see my 21-year-old son sitting doing the same thing he does every day and as much as I would love to believe he will 'grow' out of it, I know he won't and I won't fool myself otherwise... At the moment I'll be honest and say the future is very scary and bleak for my son, but we try and take it one day at a time.

Hi Catie, for some reason we seem drawn to negative news more than positive news. Maybe it's a survival instinct, something that makes us look out for potential threats. I don't know. I used to read the news daily but stopped a while back as the feeling of doom and gloom stuck with me... Just watched that video! How wonderful was that? I've still got goosebumps! It just goes to show that where there is a will there is a way!
