Rabbitnexus -- "The Media" has been destroying itself for decades. The rubes just don't think through what it means when "the media" set themselves to destroy a Ross Perot or a Donald Trump. If the rubes ever figure it out, "the media" will be burned out of their newspapers and studios and media workers who escape the flames will be fugitives with a price on their heads trying to flee the country. When things arrive at THAT pass, THEN you can say "The media has been destroyed." But "the media" will never destroy itself. They're not all stupid. Many of them don't read much; they don't have time for reading; their heads are full of TV; all of which are solid reasons to tone down the vocabulary. On the other hand, the things Stein talks about are too many and too complex. Americans want good jobs, higher wages, lower utility bills, cheaper housing, etc. That's what they all want to hear about, in plain language. But I don't think they get that from her. They want meat and potatoes, she's giving them hamburgers and lettuce salad. She is the most UNexciting speaker I've heard on the stump this year. If you like her, you like her; that's OK. Philip -- I don't believe you'd be able to follow your conscience in Iowa, where -- so far as I know -- the Constitution Party isn't on the ballot. If they are, I never heard anyone mention them on TV or radio or the Internet. So I don't think they'll get many votes here. The key to my objection is that she talks at the gradgrind level to ordinary voters. Hi-toned speakers inspire dislike and distrust in working-class listeners. Dislike and distrust are two things you DON'T want to inspire in your listeners if you're trying to garner votes. I've been to grad school myself. MA, magazine journalism, 1997; BA, history and English (double major), 1990. So I understand the language. I had hopes for the Greens this year. But, having heard Ms. Stein speak a couple of times, I understand that she's intelligent, that she also knows a lot, and that she is a piss-poor communicator. She talks to working-class voters like she'd talk to a room full of doctoral candidates. What the Greens need is someone who looks like Jill Stein and talks like Jim Hightower. The Libertarians -- or rather, those that think and believe they are Libertarians -- showed the world what they are worth when they nominated that boob from New Mexico for president. So that's the slate in 2016. Two major parties that are hopelessly mired in corruption. Two very-much-third parties that can't do politics at all. And a few smidgens such as the Socialists who resemble a few brave snowballs marching to capture Hell. I say: "God please bless America because America sure can't bless itself."
