http://jessruns.com/ : Why Bike Shopping is Like Wedding Dress Shopping

The difference is that with the dress you either don't try one above your budget or you do and then find a way to rationalize buying it :) I have the Fuji Newest 1.0 from a few years ago and I love it! Took me to work countless days! Sadly, it's now in storage since it didn't make its way to Manila...

Clicked on the link of your blog from my reader just to give you a page view (might as well support the ads, no?). I don't mind ads, specially when people are being upfront about it! And here's hoping it does cover some race fees!

Still catching up on blogs after my trip, sorry this is late! I heard there's a really nice pool at GWU people can use (I think you work in DC, right?). A friend of mine once found the info, if you're interested, shoot me an email and I can see if I still have the details.
http://jessruns.com/ : A Weighty Question

Wow, you got a lot of comments (too lazy to read them), but as a society we tell fat people all the time that they're costing us more health insurance, that they'll live shorter, etc. Maybe if you're my friend I won't tell you, but I won't say anything if you're too skinny either. (I don't have any friends that are unhealthy in a "you won't live long way" -- big or small, so who knows if a good friend had a bad behavior!) On that note, as far as costing too much health insurance, I have read that healthy people actually costs us a lot more than the obese one (the obese might end up with diabetes and heart attack, but they live shorter lives -- people who live longer end up using more resources in those years, specially once you reach old age). Just thought it was interesting!

Yes, because after running a 5k, you REALLY need to replace those calories with pizza, burgers and hotdogs. Of course. (At least that's what I tell myself!)
http://jessruns.com/ : My New Favorite Running Shirt

I HATE doing laundry and can spend weeks without doing it (pre-Manila, of course, as now I have help), and definitely am known for wearing clothes more than once, but with workout clothes I can't do that. I have worn the same sports bra more than once only because I had no clean ones, but can't do that with the shirts. Specially since they usually stink so much, but even if they didn't! (I do love your new top, but it costs way to much when it's not free! Let's hope I can snag it on a sale at some point since the summer running clothes are good for me year-round, even when people are ready to buy winter outfits!)
I need something like this here in the Philippines! But ew, you don't wash it because it doesn't stink? Gross!
http://jessruns.com/ : Running the D.C. Monuments

Monuments were my favorite route! Of course, I'd start in VA, so it's closer to me... Roosevelt Island, up Rosslyn, pass Iwo Jima and the cemetery, across the Memorial Bridge, into the Mall, and either run in front of the Capitol, or run past it if we needed more mileage (it's about 4.5 from our usual start).

9/11 5k in Arlington and the Crystal City Twilighter 5k are my favorite 5k races! Definitely sign up for those! (I think the CC one is coming up soon -- one of the best technical race shirts too! And free beer for both at the finish line!

http://jessruns.com/ : Tentative Fall Race Schedule

I really liked the MCM 10k on the 2 years I've ran it. It follows the exact same 6.2 miles at the end of the marathon, and the best part is that Rosslyn is still a ghost town then, so you can enjoy all the freebies as well, with no crowds, no line. And you get a medal for running it! (Put on your neck by a uniformed marine!) The porta-potty situation is the worst I've seen though.

http://jessruns.com/ : Side Stitches and Sunburn

This has helped me... You have to breathe in through your diaphragm not your lungs. To do that, breathe in, push your stomach out, breathe out, suck your stomach in. At first it's confusing as hell (even though it makes sense), but after a while you get the hang of it. (This is a good way to avoid stitches even starting.) Also, the other tip, after it's already hurting is to exhale ALL the air out of your lungs in one swoop, a bit woosh. Then inhale. Then woosh again. Stitches are basically contractions of the diaphragm, which is why emptying the air out helps. My recent post I read your blog!

http://jessruns.com/ : Furlough Stress

UGH tell me about it! I WISH we were in your situation! We check in to a hotel on Monday, movers come on Wednesday, we turn in our apartment after cleaning on Friday, we fly out to San Francisco (for consultations) next Monday, then Wednesday head to Manila. But if there's a government shutdown? I have NO clue. Will our move still go? Will our hotel still be paid for? We're not allowed to travel (since it's considered work), but where do we stay on the meantime? We can likely find a place to crash, but what if the movers don't come, where will we put our stuff? How would we even move it? We haven't been getting much sleep, despite being miles away in Brazil (we get back Monday morning).

http://jessruns.com/ : NFL Fit For Life 5K Recap

FYI: Don't ever do the "Riverfront Revolution" (there's a 10k and 5k) in May at the National Harbor. Guess what the course is like? Yep, same one. I did it their first year and it was horribly disorganized, started 15 minutes late, no one knew which direction to stand on the start line (at first, everyone lined up on the wrong side of the start), it was one of my worse race experiences.
Yep, haven't figured out which skirt/shirt/sock yet, but definitely a skirt, compression socks (I have them in pink or green, so it'll be one of those two), and I'll also be carrying my camelbak.
