Best thing I did was FINALLY make my own all purpose cleaner. I am ashamed I didn't do it sooner. I also haven't bought plastic bottled drinks in over two months.

The Great Fitness Experiment : I Had a Bad Day [The Problem With Confessional Blogging]

The confessionals are a fine line for sure. I usually try to keep things light on my blog, but there are and have been lots of times that I've written something and then not published it. I can self-censor, it seems. I think the line is crossed when a blogger writes for a reason other than just to get it out. I never ever think that you are writing for anything other than your own reasons, and to help your readers. Crazy aside, Charlotte, you have helped me immensely. I don't have eating issues, but I was an over-exerciser and I am taking today off in your honor! Thanks for being you.

The Great Fitness Experiment : What Gets You Out of Bed in the Morning?

I use an alarm, but it is set to NPR, so I get to slowly wake up to the cooing voice of Steve Inskeep and Renee Montaine. I am usually up when it goes off, but when I do have to get up early, my alarm is also on the far side of the room. In college, I had to set 3 alarms to get up. I feel terrible for all my roommates.

The Great Fitness Experiment : Is a Woman\'s Body Always Open For Comment? [The Problem With Street Fashion Blogging]

I read that Sartoialist post, after seeing it linked from Jezebel (LOVE), and the thing that got me upset was that not only did her refer to her as "sturdy" (Sorry Dragonmamma, but that is derogotory, and NO ONE better be calling me that) but that is one of the rare posts where he included a "normal" looking woman, and in none of the other posts did he ever comment on their bodies; he stuck to the fashion. That is how it should be on a fashion blog. I read some fashion-y blogs, but mostly because I am SO very not fashionable, but I like to look. Its like an art museum to me. I see the shots and appreciate the pretty, but that will never be me. (Expect for that cardigan. I want it.)

The Great Fitness Experiment : Bringing Gymnastics Back to the Gym

My older sister was a nearly elite gymnast and I wanted like everything else to do it because my big sister did. I tried. I failed. Big time. But, I can still do the cool easy things like round-offs that make for good party tricks. Anything more than that, and I'm too sissy. Those videos....wow.

I want your dress!! I went to my first bikram class in long pants and a t-shirt. I didn't know bikram was hot yoga. Have you gone to Core Fusion? I know there are a ton in the Twin Cities, and they give you a week pass for free! They are all in heated rooms, but not the boring 26 pose series, that gets old FAST.

The Great Fitness Experiment : How Do You Wash Your Gym Clothes?

I am tempted to post this as anonymous, because it is really embarrassing. I have been known to wear the same shorts for a week. That's 6 full days of working out. I mean, I wear undies, so that's soaking up most of the sweat, no? The shirts? I most definitely wear them twice. And I have a system - I wear a t-shirt to bed for two nights, then it becomes my gym t-shirt for 2 days while I where a new shirt to bed...etc, etc. Now that its written I realize how OCD it sounds. I swear, its only to save money and time on laundry. When I become a big kid and get a house with my own washer and dryer then I'll wear new clothes every hour! Oh, and I never separate anything. I wash it all together in cold water. Never had any colors bleed either!

The Great Fitness Experiment : Organics: Do You Get What You Pay For?

I could go on and on about this, but I'll just ay a couple things. First, organic isn't always better for the environment. It doesn't leach chemicals, no, but huge monocultures are huge monocultures. If you are buying from a large-scale organic farm, that's what you are buying from. Second, I have yet to go to a farmers market that is less expensive than the store, organic or not. I even posted about that last summer. I want to know where these mythical "cheaper" farmers markets are. Third, the cancer argument? Spot on! Fourth, I buy organic meat, coffee, and eggs. If I had kids I'd always buy organic dairy. There are a TON of studies that show that antibiotics in these products do have measureable consequences on health and can cause young girls to menstruate earlier. Last, I think the empahasis on organic actually causes people to eat fewer fresh produce. If you have only $20 to spend, and you buy all produce, guess where your money goes further? Okay, I guess that wasn't very short. :D

The Great Fitness Experiment : New Research: The Afterburn Effect is Real! [Do you workout to eat or eat to workout?]

The more I workout the more I eat. I noticed that during P90X even more than when I started really lifting heavy weights. I craved sugar sugar sugar doing P90X, and sure I didn't gain weight, because I was burning a ton of calories. But it was silly, because I was working out to eat crap that I didn't really want to eat. I stopped that, and now I crave protein. And I eat a lot less sugar. And crave it a lot less. But I like that.
