ALSO: I just wanted to give a quick shoutout to this lovely essay that helped me SO SO MUCH. It's not even part of The Trans Series, but it cracked open the door just enough for me when I was 21 and alone, and I've always been grateful to it for existing. If the person who wrote it is here, I just want you to know that "I never said I wasn't." is TATTOOED ON MY SOUL'S HEART'S SOUL.

Dear The Toast:

THANK YOU for being a place and a people where I could be who I am, even when I wasn't sure who or what that was. I've often felt like a strange alien creature, not sure where I fit, or what role I wanted, or what to say my gender was. And that was OKAY HERE. We have always been so generous towards the queer and the confused here.

TODAY, I want to say:

I'm a woman. And I'm a man. And I want to go back and qualify those terms in all the ways that I need to, but instead I will just say that The Toast was the first place I read the phrase "soft butch" and "soft butch" feels like HOME.

I'm queer, and genderqueer, and bisexual. I feel comfortable saying that out loud today, when I've mostly just alluded to it before in my sparse comments. I feel comfortable saying that today because I KNOW I AM OKAY, and NOT ALONE, and that's due in no small part to all of you. (And to Blushingflwr for a particularly INCREDIBLE Captain America fic that she so kindly sent to my DMs when I needed something to process THE WORST KISS in Civil War.)

I know I'm coming to Open Thread real late and there's no way of knowing who will see this, but I just wanted to say thanks for strengthening my magic, and encouraging my queerness, and for telling all the jokes that still resonate warmly all over my heart.

A willing foe, and sea room

"maybe she was bisexual what do i know about anything i think she was probably a lesbian but i'm not going to stop anyone from suggesting she was bisexual, queen anne was a lesbian and i'm not going to brook arguments to the contrary, some people are bisexual but queen anne wasn't one of them"

These tags are a beautiful slam poem.
