Indeed so. But total tax take does need to reduce, no matter what it is spent on. Less government, not more government.

Quite so. A lot of people don't seem to realise what is planned for them yet.

Why? None of those things will do anything whatsoever to prevent flooding or any climate change. It would just be taxation as virtue signaling, harmful to those who need or want to travel, and of no benefit to anyone anywhere.

Yes, getting HMRC under control has got to be a real world part of this. If we want flexibility as part of 'Singapore-on-Thames' then it has to include stuff like reeling in IR35 micromanagement and meddling.

> Harry and Meghan were largely popular up and until the point when they began to lecture the public

This is key.

We do not need or want their political campaigning.

Indeed, this is my feeling too.

Every new development seems to me to reduce the relevance that the monarchy has, other than as a tourist feature.

And, of course, they are not being driven out. They apparently wish to leave.

If they want to go then they should be free to go on a clean break basis.

Well observed.

If you opt out then out is out, surely. No more subsidy from the taxpayer, not even for security. It's too much money for British taxpayers to reasonably fund.

Yes, the Queen is showing wisdom (as far as we can tell for the rather limited press reports). But if they want out then nothing should stop them, as long as it is really, totally, fully, out.

> but what if Harry is then killed by a terrorist? Would we all say well, it was his own fault?

I do not know about "we" as if "we" were one single unit, but I do think that many people would certainly not say it was his own fault in such a sad circumstance. But what some people might reasonably say is that it was a risk he chose to take. That is to say: Out is surely out, in terms of both income and all other forms of taxpayer-funded subsidy. Yes, including security too.

So be it.
