I loved those books as a kid but I always used to get mad at Jodie and Stephen and the Spring parents for just expecting Janie to assimilate into the family when Janie a) had been raised by other people and b) didn't even get a TRANSITION period. Just, hey, you get dropped off at your actual-parents' house, have no contact with the people who raised you, go from being an only child to one of five siblings in a house with ONE BATHROOM and you start at a new school in TENTH GRADE under what is essentially a brand-new identity and everybody will call you "Jennie" instead of the name you've been almost your whole life.

And then they got mad at her for being "selfish" when she chose to go back to her adoptive parents. SHE'S A KID, HOLY SHIT. They all needed therapy.

My high school started at 7:50 and I had to get the bus between 6:45 and 6:50 because I lived as far from my district's high school as it was possible to and still be in said district. 40 minute bus ride at least. THE. WORST. Not to mention that I hated riding the bus on principle anyway.

In my senior year I had a car and a license, and then they changed the start time to 7:40, which meant I could only sleep in until 6:45 if I was planning on showering and stuff in the morning. I was bitter.

Man. I do not miss high school at all. My brother started his junior year yesterday and I was like "HAHA, SUCKER."
