Have you even bothered to push any of these useful buttons that connect us to other things we've done on the net? The author made a comment. I disagreed. That's about all there is to it besides people jumping to conclusions.

Oh, no, you misunderstand. I wasn't talking about this group exactly, more about the semi-intellectual labels some wear when they spout off quotes from only one side. It was triggered by the quote that I pasted up at the top. And you'd be wrong about your assumption of my political views, along with the condescension.

"Those of us who read Rand and Friedman instead of Chomsky and Alinsky . . ." Why not be the people who have read all four? Are we so desperate for acceptance that we will willingly allow ignorance of a certain viewpoint rather than face it, question it, and (for ourselves at least) answer it? Isn't it better to be able to respond to arguments with actual knowledge than "Cliff's Notes" versions, more often than not prepared by some partisan? If we have time to read and respond to opinion columns about gecko voices, we certainly have time to take a quick trip to the local library.

Big Journalism : Flood, Famine, Fear and Environmental Porn: Newsweek Devotes 'Special Edition' to Global Warming Hys

The entire purpose of the media has devolved into selling advertising. When will they figure out that outrageous only sells to those who agree with you (a small base)? The rest of us would prefer balanced and honest. And then they wonder why sales are going down. Do you think they're angling for a government bailout?

Big Hollywood : KLAVAN: Hollywood Conservatives Have To Meet in Secret

Most importantly, money is going to start dictating how the studios are going to act. The activism is what it is; performers are private citizens and allowed to speak just like we are allowed to not listen to them. Let them enjoy their soapboxes and feeling important while the adults take care of business.

Perhaps the media's just a little tired of the same old thing that we've been seeing in the streets for about forty years now. That's gotta be it. The Tea Party gets such coverage because it's new and exciting, this is the same old dirty, dirty, hippie, tree-huggin' crap, right? It's going to take a pretty big shift to make the media have to change its story. After all, that would mean that they were wrong and they don't admit that easily.

Big Hollywood : Letter to the Congressional Black Caucus from Tea Party Federation: Please Provide Evidence of Canno

I have no problem with government programs, the idea of helping a fellow human being and citizen recover after some bad luck. Health care is important and so is food. Our elders deserve respect and not to have to be consigned to the trash heap. The problem is just this: the government is screwing it up, creating a new class of dependency and another of bureaucracy. Neither produce, they can only leech. Let's find another way to make things work, not just start cutting like Sweeney Todd on crack. http://cleansweepbeaconhill.wordpress.com/2010/04...

Big Government : The Tea Party Movement: What Is It?

And that's why the detractors of the tea parties will accomplish nothing. They're starting from the wrong point. We're not hardcore Republicans, looking to do whatever the party tells us to do (a lot of us aren't Republicans at all). We are individuals that probably would agree on very little except that the government is out of control and needs some serious pruning!

Big Journalism : Rachel Maddow Thinks Her Audience Is Almost Too Dumb To Function

We're giving her far too much credit, not to mention most of the talking heads. They're actors. They read from a script. When they don't have a script, they ad-lib. There isn't a whole lot behind the patter because there's almost nothing there at all.

Big Journalism : Relax: Rachel Maddow and MSNBC Know What's Good For You

Have you ever thought about how many people depend on the government, if not directly, then as part of these "service" groups? Or on even bigger scales? Simplify the tax laws and bunches of tax attorneys need to find an honest living as just one example. The government can't organize a trip to the bathroom. Why do we expect its leeches to be any better? http://cleansweepbeaconhill.wordpress.com/

Big Journalism : When Religion Meets Free Expression, What Gives?

"You are asking a Spanish Peseant to condemn the Inquisition during the height of its power.. " I have to disagree with your analogy here. The Spanish peasant was most likely illiterate, uneducated, and ignorant of anything happening outside of his or her village. Not exactly the case in Beirut, Kabul, Tehran, or, to be honest, most places on earth anymore. I would argue that the religion is not as important as the hatred focused against the United States.

Big Journalism : Open Thread: Freedom of Speech

"Great clip and an excellent reminder of a time long ago when the Left actually respected free speech. " You know, I have to wonder about that and, as I get older and crankier, the more I start to think it was just another finger in the wind cynically political ploy. At the time, the largest untapped angry electorate was made up of young, irreverent types who wanted to be the antithesis of their parents and shocking (for the time) language was one way of doing that. Now, multiple minority groups are finding their political voice and offending them is done at great political peril. Words have meanings and those meanings can cut deep. More important, though, is to be all things to all people which is what I see happening by those what are looking for new demographics to exploit.

Big Journalism : Behind the Scenes Of the 'South Park' Follies -- MSM-Style

And that's exactly what amazes me. The press had a golden opportunity, with all the noise they were making about the links between the Saudis and the Bush families, to continue on and talk about women's rights (or lack thereof). I wonder what stopped them?

Big Journalism : Twinkie Alert: In Contemplating Tea Parties, the Washington Post Finds Racism Just About Everywhere

The Democrats are showing desperation and with good reason. The Tea Party is something that it out of everyone's control. If it were a Republican movement, that would be something they could have some control over but it's a true grassroots conservative movement. All they can do is keep throwing charges and hope something will stick. The real fun will come when the Republicans realize that they don't have any control over the Tea Party either!
