We have verified with all management that residents who needed to transfer to another unit at Wimbledon as a result of last weekend's fire did not experience any issues that would warrant the claims made by this unknown 'resident'. Everyone appears to be satisfied with the experience. Furthermore, it is not our policy to ask for first and last month's rent or create new lease agreements. We invite this resident to contact Wimbledon management so we can resolve anything that they feel was not handled well. Until then we are discontinuing our efforts to identify this person.

I handle PR for the apartment complex... It's our understanding that lightning struck one of the buildings early this morning. Smoldered for a while before catching ablaze. Everyone evacuated safely and no reported injuries. We're working to provide suitable shelter for those who need it. Red Cross has been called on scene to help as well. Thanks to the Fire Department's that are working hard to extinguish the blaze.

Grama7 - York Creek represents nearly 38% of the Township's population, yet in 2008 and 2009, the complex only represented approximately 29% of total police and fire calls. That's not excessive. YC had fewer police/fire calls (based on population) than the rest of the Township. Interestingly, our math from these records indicated that the 29% of calls only represented about 15% of the total time police and fire spent responding to all calls in the Township. Again, this isn't excessive. I'd encourage you to investigate more the protocol that police and fire have to follow when responding to calls. Length of time spent on our property, and amount of staff/vehicles responding do not directly correlate to the seriousness of the call. Finally, keep in mind that YC property has 2 public roads. Some traffic stops, police & fire calls occur on YC property, but do not necessarily involve residents/guests to the property.

The focus of this dialogue should be on the facts, not feelings. We cannot control what people do, however, we do control what happens to YC residents/visitors who violate rules and laws. We have a proven record of prompt and appropriate follow up to these situations. We do not believe York Creek requires a special assessment. We feel that we are paying a fair share of taxes, and paying them accordingly to law. The Treasurer’s math doesn’t add up. The facts don’t support the conclusions.

Also, by our count, at last night's Town Hall a total of 33 people spoke. 23 against the proposed assessment and 10 who were for (although not everyone actually said they were 'for' an assessment).

The numbers are confusing, aren't they? We hope that the Township will invest the time to verify the numbers so we can move forward comparing apples to apples. The numbers that the Treasurer shared publicly last September when he chose to take this issue public before approaching us privately are, by his own admission, not correct. We know what we've paid as we have the tax records to prove it. Additionally, we're using data from the Township, it's Fire Department and Kent County Sheriff Department to compile our police and fire stats. We pay exactly what the law says we should. We go above and beyond to make the community safe, using staff security, KCSD community officer, and private overnight patrol - the same service that patrols GVSU's campus. The Treasurer has not proposed a plan, as he hasn't produced a tax increase number or any type of figure. We stand ready to engage in constructive talks, we just want to know what it is Treasurer Townsend is thinking. We didn't ask to play this out in public, but we're not going to sit back and let the unfair finger pointing continue. (disclosure: I handle PR for York)
