My kids and I have this "fairness" discussion fairly often. And I'll bet they could quote my usual response. "Yup, life's not fair. God never said it would be. It's not fair that Chinnu (one of our Compassion children) was born in extreme poverty while you were born here with plenty to eat, clean water to drink, access to good doctors and medicine when you need it. It isn't fair that Sam (my son) is sick or that I was permanently injured in our accident. It isn't fair that Uncle Timm died at 32 years old and never met his second son. It isn't fair that so many we know don't have jobs or live in broken homes or were just diagnosed with cancer. You're right! Life isn't fair...and God never said it would be. But that's the amazing thing about grace. It isn't fair either. None of us deserve God's grace or mercy, but He gave it anyway...just because He loves us."

Loved this post, Lisa! Words we need to hear and absorb, and learn to live from a heart of compassion and love.

Oh, Claire...LOVE it! Every word. These are words I need to read again and again and simply absorb into the very fiber of my soul. Thank you.

Touch deep. It's what we all long for, ache for, connection soul-deep with our God-family. Those two words touch deep today as I stand beside my newly widowed friend -- a place where there are no words, only love, touch, presence. Touch deep. Perfect. Thank you!

I loved Rumors of Water -- every page a joy, together a cool sip of inspiration for the soul! So glad you won the book -- God's Hand in all the small details. Love that! Blessings to you.

Those words..."Sometimes silence and a serving of poetry... " are prophetic. All week as I sat in ICU with my friend and her husband, as we watched his life slip from this world into the waiting arms of Jesus, it wasn't words or advice or other's experience she needed. It was silence, presence, touch, love...and a small slice of poetry -- God's through the Psalms and a few lines of mine, born of experience and pain and hope and love. Just a small slice. Mmmm...those words are like a breath of cool morning air drawn deep inside. Thank you!

Oh, Lisa, thank you! I want to spend time simply absorbing these words: "I want to notice the differences that make you uniquely you." It's what I do with my kids, my husband. Why have I never thought to do it with others too? Maybe because noticing takes time, but could there be a better way to invest my time than connecting more deeply, more personally with others? Hmmm...you've got me thinking. :)

Thankful for a brief 15 minutes of sunlight today! Shot like crazy and was surprised by what I got. Thanks for a fun new idea to play with! :)

Lisa, I love your words, "I long to create." Me too! It's where I see, understand, grasp a little bit more of God, who He is, who I am in Him. And I think you're right, together we see more of God. I've been exploring community in depth -- what it means to "be" the Body, to do life together -- and this morning, you fleshed out yet another vital element, a beautiful illustration of Scripture -- some are hands, some feet, some eyes, each expressing something unique, different, another subtle dimension of almighty God. Thank you!
