Hi Alexa! Someone else also suggested Capoeira! I have to check it out, and love to stay well rounded! I truly believe that fitness is a life long commitment, and will hopefully get some balance into this head of mine!

Thanks so much for the feedback! I learned that, albeit the hard way ( hmmmmmm maybe my Dad was onto something when he called me thick headed;), and continue to learn as a grow, both in my practice and in life....oh and of course part of my process is a deep and abiding love for cheek injections!

elephant journal: Yoga, Sustainability, Politics, Spirituality. : Yoga is not mouth herpes.

See? Now THAT, I get! I agree! My articles for RY were never catharsis....just plain humor....because, I still love my yoga. I also get the punching bag theory...you are spot on about that...and that is what I understand the least....but to each his/ her own I guess.... We all have stuff , however I can only speak for myself when I say that I don't linger on my past, or worries all that long because it is not in my character. If given the choice, I will take peace, love and joy every single time...that being said, sometimes fighting is necessary. It should never be a lifestyle, however sometimes the choice is made for us ( as was in my case..I still thank Goodness that my Dad taught me to land a shot if I was ever as a woman being threatened), and it sucks, but what can you do? You deal, you learn, you move on...but really, I get it..people are serious about their yoga, and I am not...perhaps I can try to see where they are coming from, provided they are doing their best to be kind, which is sorely lacking in this thread...

Of course you should enjoy your practice! I love mine, and I love Yoga....I just don't love going in to a class to relax and connect to my body and my spirit to be told from the conduit of light that I need a Chakrah cleanse....because then I lose focus as I wonder about the teacher being like one of the Merry Maids of the 8 fold path...and then I laugh...look it isn't easy to get out and steal 90 minutes to myself. Attending a yoga class is a treat for me so I want to enjoy it, free from the barrage of what I view as weirdness....

I sure hope so....a sense of humor is what sets people apart...people who make no time to laugh, yet spend hours on the mat make me wonder...it is like some of the people I see in church..they think that because they show up to Sunday mass that the rest of the week is a free for all when it comes to judgement and bad choices . Many "yogis" would balk at the church comparison, however if they get pissy, bitchy, and wild in their need to defend yoga, then are they really letting go, living in the flow and practicing loving kindness? Ummmm no...as for the readers who are whining about content to Waylon? They clicked the friggen link, and chose to read your article...CHOICE...don't like it, don't click....should be simple, right?

Yes it is Steve...and I will shout it from the rooftops...I LOVE YOGA! My body and my mind adore the practice of yoga...what I cannot figure out is why people make such a fuss. Let people take what they need at the time from their practice, because no one is better at yoga...yoga should be individual...

Scott that was good of you to clarify, but trying to silence someone isn't all that bullying is...it is definitely not compassionate to bait her, and why bother for goodness sake? It is OK to feel as strongly as you do, however you lost me when you seemed to poke fun at yoga spitting her out...as a Mom, and frankly as a human being, that stuff never sits well with me. We all have " stuff" , and I appreciate your acknowledging your dark side ( which probably isn't so dark if you can see and be aware of it), but when the boil over takes it to another level where does the discussion end and the drama begin? I did read of all of your comments and you are no doubt a bright, thoughtful person, which tells me that you are above some of the commentary that peppered your many good and valid points.

I guess perception is someone's reality...I see all of the stories on RY as humor, satire or life lessons. My life is my path as yours is yours...we all have something to add, however I will never say that yoga in and of itself has harmed me in any way...quite the opposite..I love my practice, have gained insight, and with that insight, the ability to laugh at some of the goings on within the community. I have to wonder why , though, so many people attach EVERYTHING to yoga...take some pride in yourself as well...you got on your mat....you breathed , you manipulated your body through asana....the yogic teachings are our directions...we all do the rest, yoga is a union indeed, that is the part that I love the most...the cliquish middle school stuff, the outcry and need to berate a writer or a site, the ' I obviously get yoga more than you do because you wrote something negative about my sacred practice' banter, and frankly the elitist, snobbery that many yoga studios attract, I am not such a fan of...

Wow, Scott that was pretty mean..perhaps it did hurt ( duh)...people reveal themselves indeed. You just revealed the need to ridicule Leslie, for writing something about yoga that you disagree with, which reveals to me that you are M E A N...who bullies girls via Internet..?
Martha, I still love yoga and love my practice...I also write for recovering Yogi because I see the hilarity in the nuttiness that goes on in many studios. While I am not all peacefulness and light ( I am more along the lines of sarcasm and silliness, and more than anything, joy), I have not written one negative thing about yoga...I merely question many things which is pretty yogic when you think about it...the whole delving for things, making peace and letting go...perhaps writing for some of these folks is their last turn on the dance floor before fully letting go...or maybe they enjoy making readers like me laugh...

Right....??? Agree, disagree then go about your day....I also wonder why anyone would take the time to post something negative about the perspective of another anyway....hmmm mm I am all for conflict as it helps one grow, however to say who should or should not be writing for this site seems a tiny bit extreme and quite opposite of the yogic philosophy...idk...maybe it is also boredom ;)
