Climate change.............isn't the IPCC made up of over 1000 contributing scientists and leading research institutions, Govts etc, who all seem to concur that the climate is seriously being damaged. Therefore we must ask ourselves, what is the statistical likelihood that all these smart people are wrong?? Hmmh!!!__Ironically business wise there will be a huge opportunity for the planet to get into being green in all its consumerism, which will no doubt lead to spin off innovations as well. So tackling climate change will be not only be good for the planet but for business too. Only religious idiots don't get this.__:)

Our species is so fickle in many ways, constantly self assessing...............a 'double edged sword'. Usually a trigger of some sort................"I saw Jesus in an ice-cream cone and then I had a dream about Jesus who was working in an ice cream parlour........it's a sign, it must mean something???????"..........yeah right! Final bit Sorry if this sounds like I bemoaning the system………………but do think the majority of people have their head up their arse, when they are faced with difficult circumstances. It’s also a sense of perception for me, yes I know many are losing jobs/houses/marriages……………..but when I look at other parts of the world, where a third of the population live in real poverty and children die before they reach their fifth birthday, well it makes me take stock and hardens my resolve, your colleague with his three houses has nothing to really worry about…………shit some people don’t have one fucking house!!Not that I begrudge people weallth, but there is a trade off ith risk and accountability. As humans we expand our minds/problems to fit our life…..me included!!

Currently I suspect in times of trouble the human condition becomes very selfish………..that we start making decisions for our best interest rather than the collective and politicians get caught into making promises they know they will default upon….and here’s the rub, WE ALL KNOW IT, but still we play along like the don’t say….’the emperors got no clothes on’ scenario. Actually we probably need to pay more taxes, contribute more into social welfare institutions……………take a ten year plan view…..but alas no President would ever get elected if they told the through…..very sad situation really. cont

Like you I am always end up feeling a mix of amusement, outrage and dis-belief by what I consider the ‘average Joe’s’, stance and political awareness. Maybe it’s our education system, this idea that economics/social politics/philosophy are classed as higher education learning and by virtue the masses miss the opportunity to learn/be involved, so it becomes second nature as they develop into adults that they automatically take an interest. Although I am aware that research has demonstrated that many humans are like rivers and take the easy course in life and avoid obstacles or issues………they would rather watch the latest X factor show!! Like many I suspect that when it comes to politics, I am not driven to identify with one particular party, how could they ever represent my individual views/opinions as a whole!! No it tends to be individuals themselves that impress me. The one failing of our so called democratic process is that we are left to choose between a very limited selection of parties, a sort of a least worst option. cont

Part 2 Dad – maybe time to break the parent child dynamic hear!! That dear old dad is no longer the Alpha male in the group? Had my own seminal moment with my dad when I was thirty, oh yeah he still thinks he’s top dog, but when I now stare him in the eye, he’s the one that looks away first now!! Great post! My own inclination and tendency is to always to use humour as the vehicle to make my point. As humans we can take ourselves far too seriously and the religious seem to take this to a whole new level! Your Case 2 scenario, struck a chord though…………….so many times I have used what I consider very obvious dry sarcasm to make a point, usually sending myself up, so as not to make the other party defensive……..but guess what?.........they have just stood there with a blank face as if I have spoken in a foreign language!!! What I realise is that many people have somehow had a humour bypass. I think this is to do with self-esteem, pride and vulnerability and the need to be taken seriously?? Maybe the world would be a better place if we all got over ourselves more?? I have a vision of all the clerics, preachers, pope…….made to be locked in a room together and facilitate a laughter convention, whereby they are tasked with ridiculing their beliefs and themselves??? Bring on the dickishness I say!! :)

I like to think of the pope (no capital P deserved) as the CEO.........their mission is quite obvious really to convert every human being on the planet to the catholic faith. Total submissive hierarchy with all the people prostrating their minds and reading the bible…………………very Orwellian when you think about it! The faithful just don’t see how they are manipulated…………it really has nothing to do with whether there is a god or not. That is a separate question……………….the catholic church is a self-serving monster, dressed up to look like it is a noble institution that should be venerated. As with any subject it should the onus is on the teacher or proponent of a topic to explain the reasoning behind something. As the listener or student it is not my job to fill in the gaps or say I understand when I do not. A good teacher does not blame the students if they do not understand or finds fault with the teachings, maybe the teacher needs to become better at teaching or go away and only come back when they can validate their claims?? So when a religious person tries to tell me or explain their reasoning for their truths, it is not up to me to provide the reasoning and evidence to support what they are saying it is down to them. Make the claim……back it up please, otherwise just shut up!! This idea that non-believers are not in a position to understand faith and the ‘truth’ because of our lack of faith or insight is just childish…………………’You don’t have the special all seeing spectacles like I me……therefore you are not special enough to understand!!’…………..what a crock of shit!!!

Hey Loren, Contragulations on the marriage, similarly my partner and I did the civil ceremony.................felt right not to have the religious component. As you rightly point out it is fundamentally a contract you are entering into, whereby the parties decide/set out the terms. It amazes me that so many people just follow tradition and don't really look at/review the wording to see if they are comfortable with what they will be saying and signing up to!!

As you have stated we cannot turn a blind eye to what is happening in one country anymore, we are all connected, especially when we factor in that corporations are global and just as or if not more powerful than governments. So if a mega – corp lobbies a party in the states it effects jobs around the world……………….we live in an age of global politics that touches us all. Think on all our pension funds and insurance policies inter-connected and spread across stock exchanges and markets!!! “I am sorry BOB your policy holder has just your health policy to another company who has now de-valued your policy and its terms……..you aren’t covered for the cost of that operation……..” We all need to pay attention to all the G20 countries and how their policies will affect us all!!
