What a beautifully correct opinion about Jars of Clay.

I LOVED Point of Grace in the late 90s and had a whole dance choreographed to Steady On that I'd perform in my living room whenever invited/allowed/unsupervised. Very cool.

Wow, this is...weird, you're right. Did not expect to come to The Toast and see Nichole Nordeman.

(I was soooo into This Mystery. I sang the sad crucifixion bonus track in church once or twice.)

A favorite of mine is 5 1/2 minutes of Gaston saying "Crazy old Maurice, hmm?" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JcwF9z_3msk

yo, Elementary is better because the writers behind it aren't misogynistic, homophobic assholes
also because of Lucy Liu

I'd never seen American Beauty, either, but found myself nodding along with her assessment of it based on what I know. Not only about AB but about...most stories about dissatisfied middle-aged men? "Ah, yeah, of course he's the jerk but we're supposed to think he's the hero, that's how it goes." Not sure why I was surprised to then scroll down and see variations of "get laid and chill out," but there you go.

Yes! I think it was going for some kind of uncomfortable-but-universal humor and instead came off as...mean and gross. Maybe mean and gross was supposed to be the humor, actually. Either way, not a movie I'll revisit.

Ha! I teach creative writing, so for some reason my students seem to think that I should be lenient on them not knowing about things like commas and spelling because, as everyone knows, it's "all subjective anyway." Pulling my hair out always.

Sarah's American Beauty piece is so awesome but oh my God I wish I hadn't scrolled down to the comments. ONLY HERE IS THAT ACCEPTABLE. Someday I'll learn.

Has anyone seen God Bless America? This reminds me of that movie, only in a way that the people in that movie should have read this list probably. (it's on netflix. I don't recommend it. scarred forever.)
