My story is similar to yours, except we adopted an almost 2-year-old. I dropped my job and stayed at home - which I was excited about. We adopted him in September, so there were a couple months of Chicago sunshine before the dead of winter set in. I had no idea what I was doing as a parent of a toddler. I had no friends and no support - all the new mom groups were for parents of babies. All my friends had been at my job or lived far away. It was 2008 and I wasn't even on Facebook yet. It was rough. I struggled with post-adoption depression after our first two adoptions. By our third, something changed. I started writing and blogging humor and had something that was entirely separate from my family that I could focus on. I think that helped a lot. I also joined a MOPS group after our second adoption. I was fortunate to find a good group and some good friends. But I struggled with the same feelings of wondering why I was so miserable when I "should" have been so happy - especially since I didn't give birth, so I couldn't blame it on postpartum depression. I wish I could go back and be friends with that young mom now.

Ahaha! I love the Pyrex. That made me laugh out loud. Awesome that you don't have to go back for five years. I'm heading back for my third in five months. And they SMASHED me. I have dense boobs too. It didn't so much hurt, but there's this fear that I'm going to fall or pull back and be dangling by my boob. Not to post drop or anything, but here's my post about my first mammogram. http://www.canigetanotherbottleofwhine.com/2013/1...

They had found a lump, but it turned out to be a cyst, but then the non-cyst breast was all dense and iffy. The worst part was that my husband forgot I was having the mammogram and went to work and I had to take my 4yo daughter with me! P.S. This is the post I submitted to LTYM and they didn't accept. Pbbbttt!

That picture of Lily is SO cute! I love it! It's amazing what we put our parents through and most likely what our kids will put us through…if they haven't already. ;-)

42 is old. Just kidding. I feel old though - some days. Aah the things we'd tell our younger selves. I still don't think I'd listen to me. I just couldn't imagine my life any different than it was at those moments in high school/college.

That movie was fascinating, but I couldn't watch it now - too gross. Loved it when it was out - I was trying to figure it all out. And Kevin Spacey - what a wacko. He was awesome. I've changed a lot in 20 years - I'm more secure, more okay with myself, I'm married and have three kids and own a house. LOL!

Oh Janine, this is SO not excessive. You did the right thing. If it's working, it's the right thing.
