Nice results for a Canadian men's 7s team with a Canadian coach! Semi-final next for the men. Canada women's 7s team were just shy of being in that top 8; they have advanced, in any case, to the 9th place final. I'll catch both results in the morning! Good luck to each team!

Re: "We need to be looking at ways to grow the game." - Stan Doff I heartily agree. The comment in many ways harks back to a time when the Ravens were having troubling fielding two teams. If both clubs can maintain themselves over time, a better result, I agree. On the other hand, if either should ever be in jeopardy, in some way, just a suggested solution. In 1969 the North Shore All Blacks merged with the West Vancouver Barbarians and certainly over time a strong club did result, the Capilano RFC. No doubt the conditions of the day dictated dynamics there. Be creative and grow the game, by all means, yes, do so! At present the Ravens do have two strong teams; likewise the Kats are doing well in their one team program. Long may such continue. Thanks for the comment!

Always full value with your reports, Peter MacDonald! Congratulations to the Ravens Premier side on their season, Peter, and likewise to the Rippers on their BC Championship win today. I see the nearby Kats won their BC Championship match, as well. I've always wondered about a Ravens - Kats merger ... the "Katsilano Ravens"? One day, perhaps!

The dream ... is such an important part of excellence, Ian; it resides within every athlete, very person; unless not nurtured; unless, perhaps, extinguished; cultivate those dreams and watch success follow; kill those dreams, the opposite ensues. RC's centralized men's 15s program, in this scribe's view, killed the dreams that ought to have been at the forefront of cultivation, in so many, in favour of World Rugby coaching hubris that said such coaches could achieve the desired result, with the few; RC, essentially, in men's 15s, has failed to cultivate, Ian, the dream where that dream resides, in the hearts of the many. It fell to the few to achieve the sought-after goal, that goal left unachieved; no fault, in that case, though, to be laid at their feet. Too many dreams in the many elsewhere, were extinguished, following such a centralized approach. Athletes must be encouraged to excel wherever they are and be rewarded by selection if and when selection is merited. But where the cultivation of the dream itself, is precluded, in advance, by way of centralized program selection criteria, a structural disincentive results... a structural disincentive, in the many, to dream. Just a few thoughts, Ian ... all the best there!

Capilano RFC - April 2023 Caps also host the Oshawa Vikings, on Sunday, April 30 2023: "There will be three rugby games at home this Sunday. Mini Rugby starts the day off at Klahanie Park at 10am. Following this will be two youth rugby games. The final game of the day will see the Capilano Sr. Men host a touring game against the Oshawa Vikings. This should be a great club day, we hope to see many Capilano RFC supporters! There will be a food truck on site in the afternoon. Schedule for the games can be found below. Any game updates will be sent out on the club email on Friday. See you at Klahanie Park on Sunday April 30! 10:00am Capilano Mini Rugby 11:00am Capilano U14 Boys vs Bayside 12:30pm Capilano U16 & Friends vs TBD 2:00pm Capilano Men vs Oshawa Vikings" https://capilanorfc.com/news/rugby-sunday-at-klah... Added note for April 30, 2023: "It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sandra Currie. Sandy was the lifelong love of our gatekeeper, Gord Currie, who along with Tom Kirk looks after the gate at home games. Gord is an original Capilano and also played 10 years in Toronto for the Balmy Beach Club. They, along with daughters Shannon and Tara, moved back to West Vancouver and Gord played divisional rugby for many years and then the Snowcaps. "Sandra supported her husband Gordie throughout his very long rugby career. Sandy put up with it all! She never complained, at least not to us. Sandy was the one who often answered the phone when club mates and friends were looking for Gord. She always sounded up beat and friendly. Originally from Kamloops, Sandra was a great sports fan- she started out watching hockey and baseball and then became a great rugby supporter. "Sandy came to most Capilano games, dances, functions; you name it Sandy and Gord were there. Her health failed in recent years but she still seemed up beat when you spoke to her. Sandy always kept up to date on what was happening at the Club. She along with Betty Langley watched home games from the East in Goal during the Capilano Cinderella season when they won their last Men's Premier Provincial Championship in 2012. They were nicknamed “The Touchdown Twins” Sandra will be greatly missed by her family and many friends - our hearts reach out to them. "On Sunday prior to the game between the Capilano Selects and the Oshawa Vikings a tribute to Sandra will be held along with a moments silence. Instead of the normal gate, a collection will be taken with the proceeds going to the Currie family to donate to a cause of their choice. Hopefully a large crowd will turn out to honour Sandra and cheer on the Capilano’s. "Caps for lifelong Written by: John Langley"

Curious if any stats might bear out the possibility that a player could well develop more, as a player (if playing at an MLR rugby level, as an example, but with limited game time) where MLR participation might be foregone in favour of playing somewhere else, almost anywhere else, but where the player gets consistent playing minutes week in and week out.
