Maybe you are not from around here (I have it on good authority that you are from Idaho, in fact rather close to here), but in these parts "cherry pickers" are the latinomessican poors who come to harvest our crops. (Also they are the machines the better-off ones use in said activity, because why bother to distinguish.) This loyal comrade assumes that you did not intentionally call Cruz a racialism, or did so in mockery.

Yours truly was a girl scout through middle school, and I can tell you in no uncertain terms that I really, really wished I was a boy (this may have been where my cross dressing started...). While the boys got to go to camp and learn how to build a fire and work wood and tie useful knots, the girls... made popsicle stick angels and went to makeup (SPONSORED BY MARY KAY) sleepovers at the local conference hotel. This is not to say that girl scouts did not have badges for nuclear chemistry... but nobody seemed to know how one earned it. And don't get me started on the cookies. I still buy them, but they don't help the barefoot-in-the-kitchen image.

The kicker was, I became an engineer despite the odds. The world of engineering is if anything even more sexist and demoralizing. I honest to Jeebus heard my co-worker talking the other day about how it's okay to beat a woman unconscious if she slaps you, or to shoot a black guy if he gives you guff. And not in a satirical way.

Fuck this. Can I just go live on one of Ursula LeGuin's planets now?

Thanks to the Medicaid expansion in Washington State, my unemployed ass got upgraded to Medicaid and my co-pay on my thyroid meds that I need to not be depressed and dead tired went from $30 to $0. As far as I'm concerned, everyone should be on Medicaid.
