Six? Am I missing something. Burnett, McDonald, Rodriguez, Karstens, Bedard, Correia and Locke. Are we knocking one of those guys or is it a simple case of forgetting about one of them?

I kind of like the move and kind of not. Why I don't is because the impact it has on the future. I can't see Hanrahan being back next season and Grilli is a free agent after this season so I figured Lincoln would be at the back end of the bullpen. This move devastates the back of our bullpen for next season. I guess that will now fall to a Cruz-esque acquisition, Hughes and maybe Morris next season. Could work but I'm just not sure.

Like the idea but wouldn't this just shift the problem down 1 spot, no protection for the guy protecting Alvarez? Also there is one guy who has the ability to be that in the upper minors or at least was thought to not all that long ago, Andrew Lambo. He is still rather young and while it would be foolish to expect him to quickly turn around one can still hope.

Negrych did net us a decent catching prospect in Carlos Paulino. So he wasn't completely useless.

Interesting idea but how does that apply to the Pirates. You cite 19 straight losing seasons but that is over the span of 3 ownerships.

Too bad the Pirates didn't sign John McDonald as the backup infielder. Maybe Matt McSwain can make a push and get a call up as well though.

I've heard about him but mainly only because it was his team international signing bonus record Luis Heredia broke. Does that count as really knowing who he is?

If this list is to be taken seriously there is some insane pitching depth in the NL Central. The 5th best #4 starter in the division finished 33rd in xFIP in all of baseball last season for pitchers with at least 100 IP. The same pitcher also had the 18th best K/9 rate in baseball for pitchers with a minimum of 100 IP.

Hard to believe that is a below average #4 in this division.

#OswaltToBucs, is that tonight's project? At this point I'd also take #HardenToBucs or what about #SPToBucs? You know so we don't get too specific.

I don't think those formulas make much sense. The arbitration one should come with some sort of sliding scale to distinguish between 1st year, 2nd year and 3rd year. If you assume it means .31 WAR for the 1st year of arbitration and .31 for each year after we get .62 for the second arbitration year and .93 for the third. I think this makes sense since the FA eligible uses 1.23 which would basically be what the fourth year would be.

Anyway applying this new formula we get 2.26 + (2.9)*(.62) = 4.058 million. Which appears to be inline with what Hanrahan received.

To my main point adjusting the formula to take into account this is his second year of arbitration seems to say it is a fair deal for both sides.
