The Toast has meant a lot to me. Reading the essays here and following the commenting conversations have certainly led me to be a kinder and fiercer version of myself.

I cannot adequately express how much I ardently admire and love you all.

So long, and thanks for all the fish!

Reading this piece when it was first published meant a lot to me- I remember trying to talk to my grandma about how this frame of thinking about Grandpa's Alzheimer's was helpful to me. Starting there opened up a larger and very difficult conversation about how difficult it was for her to experience the progression of his disease. They had a codependent symbiotic relationship which was at times difficult to understand as loving- but it was the life boat they both devoted themselves to for 70 years.

Reading this again, six months after both of my grandparents died (four days parts!) and so close to the end of The Toast, has really reminded me of how heartfelt and deeply meaningful both my relationship with them and reading The Toast has been for me.

TLDR; thanks for the years of good stuff

Thank you Nikki. Thank you for your work here and for sharing your perspective on deeply personal topics. Your own writing and undoubtedly your editing work has been thrillingly thought and heart feels provoking.

I'm really looking forward to seeing you read from your book at Powell's. (I just know it'll happen, please, please, please universe-and book-tour-powers-that-be!!)

Is this where I can safely admit that I was delighted to find a pale pink shimmer creme eye shadow in the sale bin at Sephora recently? And that I've been wearing it paired with purple sparkly eyeliner?
Thankfully I haven't been tempted back to all the hair glitter and sticky-hair magnet lip gloss. #classof2005

I just got my first pair of glasses about a month ago and am surprised at how natural wearing them feels now. I had an adjustment period of about a week before I really accepted that seeing through them felt natural.

It still surprises me to catch a reflection and see my face with glasses! The glasses still feel a bit novel to me- but the only people who have really mentioned how they look are the same people I asked for style advice when selecting the frames! Including former housemates who saw me nearly everyday- they didn't notice I'd taken up glasses!

Which I suppose just goes to prove that no one is ever really half as critical/aware of our appearance as we think they might be.

Best wishes to both of you! I'm a fan of garden partyeque weddings- sounds like the ideal level of fun/fancy event for me. I am unfortunately no help when it comes to playlist creation, but am very much here for other wedding talk. Do you have any other wedding stuff you're trying to figure out?

Does anyone have a wedding planning app they really enjoyed using/ found to be actually useful?

We' re at the initial stages of wedding planning- but surprise- we're having two weddings! One in India this winter and one in Oregon next summer. For a variety of reasons, we've decided to do two actual wedding ceremonies and I'm unsure of how to proceed with the planning. Any opinions/insight if it would be best to approach it as two separate events with significantly overlapping guest lists, or one event in two parts?

Also, any thoughts on mid morning weddings?
