4-in-1 or 6-in-1 are the most common for chain mail, but I expect she's making a 3-in-1 Half Persian chain.

It depends on how wizardry works. I've always assumed that it takes active assertion of will, which isn't something you can do on autopilot.

Boring is relative, I guess. Like any other highly repetitive task, once you're good at it, you can do it without too much concentration and then think about other things, like listening to music or an audiobook or something.

It would be way harder to do what Nita did, which also involves constant, active concentration and will, not simply repetitive hand motions.

I read them when I was young and less discerning than I am now. I had the whole series for a while. *sigh* That's one of those stories where the idea is so great, but the execution just doesn't do it justice.

Also I reread it a few years ago and omg it is so sexist. So. Sexist. Just. So bad.

The whole "walking around creating new worlds" thing really reminds me of Nine Princes in Amber by Roger Zelazny. I'm not a fan of the Amber series anymore, but the way they could find or create new worlds is something that has always stuck with me.

This is generally one of my least favorite books in the series, for much the same reasons.

I didn't love A Local Habitation the first time through, but I like it more now. April in particular is such a fantastic character, and her growth over the book is wonderful. And Tybalt is always great.

Nita and Kit's first reaction to unexpected "it's trying to get us" situations seems to be strategic retreat and/or shielding.

I've always assumed that Dairine's manual, being sort of semi-sentient, apparently even more so - or at least more obviously so - as a computer than Nita's book, could tell that that she was actually in danger. That's still not really justification, though; "kill it" is a pretty extreme reaction.

I'm generally opposed to people hitting children, so the idea that Dairine's parents wouldn't spank her as a punishment is ok with me. I do agree that the changed line is less funny, though. It's a trade-off, I guess.

If you contact DD through her website, she's happy to hear about errors like that so she can fix them, or at least she has been when I've contacted her.

Also, the books were updated not just for technology changes but to fix the timeline itself. It's a mess in the original editions; it's, when the various books are set and how long events take, people's ages are inconsistent or incorrect, I think even some things like middle names and birthdates change from book to book. These things never bothered me much, I let that sort of thing just flow by me, but I get why she'd want to fix it.
