The author posits that the definition of force ("violence") is too narrow and must encompass "sweatshops", and then attempts to use an act of violence (theft) to prove that the definition is too narrow! From that huge error and fallacy, he builds his argument - and it is no wonder his conclusion is in error too.

There is no deep moral question here - there is no free choice and one cannot make moral stances where one is not free to do so. If the question was: "It's up to you, you can drive the tractor or not...." without the threat of death himself, then you have a moral question. But your scenario, none exists, so your question is moot.

The CIA overthrew the democratically elected Mossadegh, a moderate - and installed the Shah, who with the feared SAVAK (CIA trained Secret Police) killed and tortured dissents. It is all well and good that some seemed to prosper as favorites of the Shah, but his reign was terrible. If by purpose you strike fear into the people into submission or kill them, you end up with only radicals left to resist the tyranny. The clerics who hold no earthly fear of death amply stepped into the destroyed moderate position as the sole resistance to the Shah. With tyranny and horror on one side and the Clerics on the other, most of the People had chose the Clerics. When the Shah sold Iran oil rights to American and British companies, and lined his own pockets and impoverished his people (other than those that he held as his 'favorites') - the Islamic Revolution seeds became well watered. The unintended consequences of overthrow and tyranny spring to life post-Revolution. Few people are capable of understanding history enough to avoid repeating this mistake, over and over again.

First "institutionalized" homeschooling is a contradiction. Second, you're right. I suggest it is the best option (ie: the primary option), but for many cases it is not feasible. Thus, paid-by-parent tutoring would have to suffice.

Joe, Look deeper. The only way myth is forced into fact is by the power behind the school board - government legal force. The matter whether someone believes in ghosts or not is irrelevant to you or me. They are free to believe whatever they wish. The matter becomes vital if they force their belief in ghosts upon other people. If it was by their hand, the People would intervene and resist, and that would end that. But if it is not by their hand, but by the hand of government, resistance becomes problematic. A war breaks out over control of the hand of government. Get government out of all our lives, and let the ghost-believers live in their own world of their own making.

As already stated, theft is an act of violence, and all means necessary to stop it is a Right - but no more or less than to stop the theft (or recover the goods). "Punish"? What right do I have to "punish" someone? That is revenge, nothing more, and pointless. Restitution most certainly - "return to what was before" is a right.

"Government" is a definition. It is defined as: the entity that claims a monopoly on the use of violence within a geographical area To be 'recognized' as a government, this is precisely what the requirements are: (1) exclusive control of territory (2) sovereignty - ie: immunity from the rule of others (3) taxation - ie: ability to seize wealth by demand (4) impose rule on the occupants of that territory You are then a 'government'. Government is an organization. It does not, however, define ALL organizations. Humans can organize themselves, naturally, without government. Under such organization, Rightful Laws can be codified, if necessary. However, it is probably unnecessary, since Rightful Law is essentially self-evident. This is the natural state of all men, over all times in history and all cultures. It take no design for this to happen - humans are natural herd animals. What is UNnatural is the belief that what no man has a right to do, a group of men can assume such a right. They assume this right by violence - the right they assume is the right to use violence.

What part of "unjustified" do you miss? Justified shootings are in response to direct armed threat. UNjustified shootings do not fit this criteria - OBVIOUSLY.

It is a well-know FACT that if the MAJORITY of people were at all of criminal mind - there is not enough police in the world that can stop it. Police exist to enforce government edicts. They are NOT there to protect you. Court case after court case establishes this as truth. It is only because government explicitly demands a monopoly on violence that it attacks violent people. They do not attack violent people who work for the government. This is a fundamental and core understanding. This is why Cops have no problem killing civilians. This is why Cops have no problem attacking innocent people. They are NOT your protectors - they protect the government. This is why a Cop can shoot down innocent people and get off with a promotion and a raise.

No rule of law is meant to be perfect and to prevent all crime, all the time, unless you’re completely freaking crazy.

I do not fear the violence of a man. It is THE MOST POWERFUL AGENCY in the USA government. You point: Nuclear weapons are just ONE of the ample array of arms available to the military to be used on non-violent men! The IRS has super-powers. They can pierce any and all "private" information of anyone, without warrant, on their own whim for their own reasons with no obligation to explain their actions to any oversight by any one outside the agency. They are so fearsome, politicians avoid tangling with the Power of the IRS. None survive when they do.
