I second this! Skillet cornbread made with bacon fat is now known in my house as "crackbread" because of its dangerously addictive qualities.

Baby: absolutely, ridiculously adorable. Those chins! Those big eyes!
Napkins: lovely! Handmade?
Salad: so tempting. I also will be the only person in my house who will eat it, but eat it I will.
Pastures of Eden: hands-down, flat-out, no-questions-asked the best feta there ever was or ever will be. The only feta I'll buy. (I live 1.5 miles from the closest TJ's, thank goodness! My grandmother sends a box of TJ's treats to relatives in the Midwest every Christmas, but unfortunately I doubt the feta would survive the trip to Oklahoma...)

Well, yes it would! Thank you for the confession! I didn't tell you about the several boxes that went straight from the wedding venue to the closet and garage. I'm afraid to look inside them...

Erm. I have a couple of piles like that around the perimeter of my dining room, and I don't have two impossibly adorable babies (or any, actually) around. I won't horrify you by confessing how long they've been there, but it's possible one has a little wedding debris in it... And the wedding was a year ago.

It looks like you're accomplishing a lot with your two "assistants"! And that passed-out shot of Molly is just priceless.

Excuse me now. I have to go clean up some piles.

I think I swooned a little bit over that hutch and your beautiful teakettle. It's okay - I'm better now. Lucky you! I admire your success from afar, with only a little wistfulness. Thrifting in the San Francisco Bay Area is an exercise in frustration - eeevvvrrry now and then (just often enough to get you hooked) you'll score something amazing at a brilliant price, but most things are painfully overpriced. Sniff. :) Congratulations on your fabulous finds!

"It's okay to step back from the problems of the world and concentrate on making your home a sanctuary."

Thanks for this. As a twentysomething nonprofit lawyer in a fast-paced urban area, this isn't a view that gets a lot of airtime among my counterparts. I hear a lot of conversation about current events and social problems or how to advance professionally, but not much about investing time and energy at home. I crave time at home, quietly puttering, not listening to the news or thinking at all about what's happening outside my front door. (Try admitting this in a group of nonprofit advocates.) I do think engagement with the wider world is important, but I agree with you: "it's not the only definition of excellence to do so." Thank you for making me feel at home here.

What an exciting story! You had me on the edge of my seat. So glad you made it there safely, and congratulations on your beautiful little one. I just love the name Molly!

My bachelor's degree was focused on 19th century British literature, and I have not even *heard* of Anthony Trollope. Pathetic. Thanks to you, I can now set about rectifying the situation immediately -- I've already downloaded Barchester Towers to my Kindle (thanks for the beginner's suggestion, Auntie Leila!).

We have a border collie mutt who sounds very much like Roxie. Ginsburg is the sweetest thing ever, so devoted, and typically very well behaved. Her "high-alert mode" triggers include people at the front door, strangers in general, and human-powered wheeled things like bicycles, rollerblades, and skateboards -- behold, barking frenzy. On the other hand, if someone dares to use the washing machine, the dryer (strangely, not the dishwasher) the vacuum, the mop, or the broom, she'll either cower upstairs or in the backyard. Usually peanut butter gets her attention pretty well, but in the event of dreaded things-on-wheels or the washing machine, she's unreachable. Crazy beast! Loveable, though. Roxie is adorable!

This might be my favorite of all of the weddings I've read about - and since I'm about 6 weeks away from my own wedding, I've read about a lot of weddings in the last few months! This one, though - I want my wedding to feel joyful as this one looks. I love how vibrant and magical it seems from the pictures, and how much handmade love went into the details! I also appreciate your strong dose of common sense, which we're doing our best to infuse into our wedding. This is a wonderful reminder about what's important, and what's not. Thank you for sharing, and congratulations to Sukie!
