The Bible tells Christians to help the poor themselves and in their churches, and to spread the word of God to those who suffer. Yet when leftists "help" people they put the government in the church's role and refuse to let the government spread the word of God. The result is lefty Christians don't have to do any of the hard work of helping people, they don't spread the word of God, and they have stripped the church of much of its role while empowering Caesar to not only help the poor, but also to take everything from anyone it wants including the poor.
