Well that's lovely to hear Kathryn, thank you! I believe my main downfall was the poor editing... I didn't really know what editing involved at the time- especially the structural edit. I now know that a first draft is not a finished manuscript! I'm definitely not ruling out self-publishing as an option. Time will tell :-)

An honest insight into the self-publishing process, Kathryn. I think some people underestimate just how much work goes into the process and how it's sometimes just a matter of trial and error to see what works. A learning process. I know that when i made my first attempt at self-publishing 7 years ago i had no idea what i was doing and thought i was doing okay, but now i look back and feel embarrassed! I've learnt a lot more since then and I'm not brave enough to take the plunge again! It sounds like it's working well for you in that it allows you to experiment with different ideas and not conform to the demands of traditional publishers.

Great post. Anna definitely has a particular style which carries through the three novels. I like that :-)

So true, Sean. Getting paid in books is enough for me in exchange for an honest review. I can't really judge the reviewers who are paid, because they are living the dream- getting paid to read books! My judgement would be more towards the authors, that money has to be used to lure positive reviews.

Sounds like this book had a huge impact on you Sean and I agree that the world building is a big strength of this story, however i felt the characterisation was lacking slightly- they felt a little removed (for me anyway!). I liked that it explored many ethical issues that are present in today's society (e.g genetics research, child protection etc).
Enjoyed reading your different take on When We Have Wings!

Good answer, you certainly don't want to take the fun out of reading! I chose the 100 book option anyway... thought it would be a good way to appreciate my fav book for what it's worth.

Already a twitter follower :-)

Great review Sean, i too enjoyed Gone which i read late last year. Having crossed the Nullabor myself just before Christmas I can appreciate Jennifer's view of the Aussie landscape that she presents in this story
My recent post Book Review: The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin
