Often, when men cheat, it's not really about sex as it is about reinforcing their ego. It's nice to still feel attractive and wanted... especially by a younger woman. Sex is not a game to me. It's instinctual. I can't approach it any other way. In addition, I wasn't raised that sex is dirty and a nude body should be covered and hidden away... or that a woman should not visibly enjoy her partner - and just service his needs foregoing your own. Ana, Hi, thank you for your comment. I think a lot of Black men get a mixed message about identity...especially from the cultural shift you mentioned. In addition, there was a major shift in the '90's to get more in touch with your African roots and heritage. For them to compete, they have to infuse more an "urban flava" in to their approach. My wife, being from Haiti, who relishes in poetry, art, and world music is appalled by street mentality, but does respect its influence throughout the world. Perhaps a Black or South Asian person might be more sensitive to your problems, but this may not be enough consolation for so many other factors that are important to you in a relationship. @ Alexander Thank you for your lengthy comment. Let me address your response. 1) I've been very blessed to have met my wife. So, I have reached my "promised land" to some extent. I hate to disappoint you, but I don't have any connections to the slave era nor do a lot of other Whites. I think you have to overcome that stereotype that Whites want to return to those days...at least for your sake. 2) Dating/Marrying Black women does not make you hipper (Although I think I'm pretty for a White guy in his 40's - pops his collar - lol), but it does add more credibility particularly on behalf of my readers here. I think I would have to be more in tune to write about specific elements of Black culture to truly be an effective writer here, wouldn't? My world is actually surrounded mostly with Black people. I live in a home with 7 people (5 children) and I'm the only White person. Think about it. 3) I agree 100% that there a lot of reservations from Black families when he/she brings home a White person. I have personally encountered it. But, it can be overcome when they see you are loving, supportive, and have the best intentions. Definitely not tying to sell the idea that Whites are welcome and Blacks are not. 4) Again, to allude to phrases that imply "All White People" is hysterical. Many Whites do not prescribe to these notions at all. So, far this is your second attempt to "lump" White folks back into the days of slave ownership and superiority. But, some do. And I acknowledge that. Hopefully, you can learn to identify it. 5) White women are free to date whomever they choose. I have never dated one and probably never will. If you have a Twitter account, you would see a lot of tweets between Black men and women about this topic about "Becky" and Black men being critical of Black women. 6) I don't view it as being waste. They do. Whites seem to have this false sense of security to discuss whatever comes to mind without them realizing who I am and what I stand for. So, I have heard the comments. But, I've heard the same thing from Black men when they see me with a Black woman. The white gene is a recessive gene. Because of its recessive nature, it becomes more aggressive...for survival. I've heard it all before. Not sure if I would classify that as ego. But, to address your point, I don't think it bothers White men when the lesser-attractive White women are courted away. Even Black women stipulate "good Black men" when they refer to their men pursuing White women. In closing, I didn't take your comment personal. Just as I hope you didn't take my reply to you to be that way. I knew when I created the site that it would be controversial and have a mixed reaction. But, I think it was important enough to be said. I hope you continue to find the content interesting here and promise me that you will maintain your energy and honesty in future comments. RadioRebel, Your points, although valid for a lot of material typically written online, was almost like preaching to the choir. The entire article was written for (mainly) White men wishing to pursue a relationship with Black women. I am fully aware that there are successful, educated Black women. I have been dating them for over 20 years. One of the recurring themes from Interracial Love Magazine is stressing this point of Black women becoming more prominent in business, in the corporate world, and in higher-paying positions. As a White guy who has worked and dated very heavily in the Black community over the years, I have seen an attempt from the " two-parent, middle class home, educated, can engage others in insightful conversation" side of the Black community paint this picture that the "have-nots" don't exist. Either you are in denial, or perhaps, you don't know that that element of Black society exists? I have worked in the Black community as a Job Consultant dealing with the socioeconomic challenges of guiding Black and Hispanic women to migrate off of Welfare to find employment. I've seen the harsh living conditions and children going to school with nothing to eat for breakfast. I've dealt with Black men recently released from prison in their 30's who have never worked a day in their life that now have to. This may surprise many who read this, but I was fortunate to work alongside these people. I learned a lot. Perhaps you don't operate in that world, but I have; all over the country. I live in Philly, but recruit out of Delaware and Maryland. DC is blessed, but again, has it's poor neighborhoods as well. As a White man, and I'll be 100% with you, a woman having a degree, a job, both parents and a car is not that really big of a deal to us. It's expected. Those elements are really only unique, selling points within your circles, not ours. There are millions of White women who have either the same credentials or better. Plus, that doesn't guarantee that an interracial relationship is going to be successful, does it? It's only a beginning. Zabeth, You bring up a good point. I'm almost tempted to write an article about it. I can tell you, from experience, it just doesn't work, relationship wise. I'm not a good representative of the "typical White guy," and she would only wind up being disappointed. You would think that a Black women would be more prone to White men who have dated Black women and understand them and how to coexist in a normal, happy relationship...but, they don't. Chilie, Thanks you for your comments. I admire black women for taking an interest in elements of White culture, but personally, I am not attracted to Black women with these tastes. I like Caribbean, Indian, Mexican, and African food - even soul food! LOL I like old soul and R&B - stuff like Mary Wells, Dionne Warwick, Atlantic Starr, Delfonics, etc... Outside of the early MTV years, i found most White music repulsive. I don't speak for or identify with Whites or White culture. I have exclusively dated and married Black women my entire life... (well, except for a Puerto Rican or Dominican throw in the mix here and there) and have only raised biracial children... I guess looking back... I realized that that's who I really was... and wasn't trying to adopt something with some agenda... Surprisingly, many Black women say they don't want a real "White Bread" kinda guy... "Nigga" has no place in White society, that is obvious, but nor does it serve a purpose in the Black community either. It's certainly not a term of respect or endearment and does nothing to uplift interaction among Black men and women. My children, yes they're Black, err... Biracial, are not allowed to say "nigga" amongst each other or by their friends. What Dr. Laura Schlessinger was stating was that Whites should be just as entitled to the term as Blacks. Elli, Thank you for your comment. It's always been my perception that white men are very passive creatures when it comes to dating, in general, never mind approaching black women. I feel that more black women who shun the idea of dating outside their race have unfortunately never had to deal with being asked. One day, when I was in my office, a couple of black women from the warehouse floor came to ask a question about payroll. As I was researching their pay records, I saw them looking around my office and at my family pics of my wife and kids. As they were leaving, and I was closing the doorbehind them, I heard one of them say, "Did you see those pictures, girl? He a'ight, he got one of "us" at home." My thoughts were that when a black women sees you are already more open-minded to dating and interacting with their own, they become less defensive towards us. (Us being white men.)
