A couple of days ago, LV published the "creative kills" list. I was almost going to comment then that we can freely watch people torturing and killing each other, but there are heavy restrictions on movies where everyone has a jolly good time together, and no-one gets hurt ie pornography.

I watched "Battle Royale" online after following references around the internet. I've wanted to watch "Hard Candy", but never had the chance, but apart from that simply don't want to watch any of these.

"put in a room with a beautiful, fair-haired woman and forced to mate with her"

I know he's making that up. Who has to be *forced* to mate with a beautiful, fair-haired woman?

Re list item no 10: How is being shot down by a Soviet fighter plane "an accident ... or most likely an accident"?
One of the most famous crashes, although not on this list as it didn't kill quite enough people, is the Concorde crash. In that same week 500+ were killed in a train crash in India. Plane crashes are obviously more newsworthy than train crashes, and France is obviously more newsworthy than India. (Unless, perhaps, you are in India.)

In addition, hot air rises, and the colder air is sucked in to replace it.

Armin's first comment raises a semantic point (the branch of linguistics concerned with meaning), not a grammatical one.

A username like deathgleaner, and this list has made you paranoid?

Probably, not, but finding a tampon in her chili might be considered tampering.

Thanks. You too. It is now a very wet tomorrow here. (Referred to as Boxing Day, which leads to a few interesting comments from my students.) Legally, it is a public holiday, but as it falls on a Sunday this year, it's hard to tell the difference. It's always a much more relaxed day than Christmas day, with leftover food, leftover drink and two of the major sporting events starting.

A very interesting book is "Can Reindeer Fly?" by Roger Highfield, which I stumbled across some years ago. He seriously, scientifically covers religious and popular culture topics ranging from virgin birth and wandering stars to the best way to cook turkey, the aerodynamics of reindeer and how does Santa drops presents in 2/1000ths of a second.

I don't read Greek enough to read the original texts, but I've got a tutorial and a lexicon and several commentaries. I'm still trying to learn Korean.
