Did you know, 1912 was the induction of the '8 hr' work day. 9-5 became the standard because it fit well with the "average" adult's schedule, but as TJ said, any period of 8hours comprises the corporate American stereotypical job definition. Its the norm, the average, but by no means the only viable option.
