Latinafocus.com : Maiden Voyage to Medellin, Colombia

I once traveled the Cauca Valley from Cali to Pereira. I think I made a mistake, should have gone to Medellin instead. There was fun in Cali, however the rest of the valley was just a touristic thing for me. I think there wold have been more to do in Medellin.

Costa Rica Single Male Travel : Marta Fonseca Gets Wednesday Night at Little Marlin

I think Marta is pretty talented, and I am glad I found a video of her sounding good. We are really getting a good deal at the Little Marlin, normally there is a hefty cover to come see live.

Costa Rica Single Male Travel : Cash is King in Costa Rica

Mario, how much did you pay to use the ATM? The only way to be sure is to check your statement and compare it to the amount of colones you actually received. Even if you bank does not tack on a flat fee for foreign ATM use you will typically get hit with 1-4% in the exchange rate. Just at 1% on $500 you are paying $5, and in my opinion that is too much. As far as being simple I don't follow your logic. Sticking $1,500 in your pocket for a extended weekend in San Jose seems far simpler to me. It's easy to change for example, $500 either at the Banco de San Jose at the airport (not the money exchange). Make your room reservation with a credit card, but pay with cash on the way out. When you leave you know exactly how much was spent.

Romance, Sex and Cultureshock in Costa Rica : Picking a Winner at the Rojo

Back in 1998 you could walk into that place and see some of the same girls from the Del Rey, usually Colombians. Also, the immigration crackdown around 2000 made it more difficult for Colombians to come to Costa Rica, and around the same time the Rojo started going down.

Costa Rica Pay for Play Lifestyle : Police Sweeps in San Jose Aggressive Toward Tourists

I think you are 95% right Keith. The problem is experiences in Costa Rica tend to be arbitrary, and when it gets bad no one is coming to rescue you, least of all security inside the Rey if the problem is on the street. Despite anyone's ability to navigate the streets it's a pity the cops are now coming into the bar and asking for Id. It's politically motivated, and won't accomplish anything.

You would think a roadmap to the action and an illustrated video would be enough. Actually there is some talk of including a Spanish phrase book in next year's edition. Perhaps we should look into a special salsa dance video. :)

At its height the molino rojo reminded me of Adelitas Bar or the Chicago Club in Tijuana, Mexico, allbeit cheaper. These days it's just mainly cheap, and not much to look at it, although some recent management changes might bring it back. Long live the Rojo!

They don't charge, but they have a black book of chicas who are not allowed, you may not bring more than one at a time, and if the guy at the front desk doesn't like how she is dressed, then she doesn't get in.

I used to like the Presidente, but their one chica policy, no dress policy and blacklist are not cool. Do you really want to be told in pidgin English by a front desk clerk that you can't take a girl up to a hotel room you costs $100 a night?

Romance, Sex and Cultureshock in Costa Rica : Moochie, the Latin(a) Lover

The Latin culture is more social, family members are often more dependent on each other for financial support. It isn’t superior in every respect but a lot of gringos on their “way in” do try to sell themselves on Costa Rica, and thinking that some how the culture is better is a good selling point. Of course it’s not a buffet, you have to take the good with the bad.
