I've tried it your way. Didn't work. Tried it cold turkey and lasted just a couple of weeks before logging back in (after 'deleting' my account) to find all of my info and friends still there.

So now I am about 2 weeks into my second quitting, and this time is FOR REAL. I deleted my 500+ fan page for the blog. I deleted my personal account(s). Just before I deleted them, I changed the passwords to something totally obscure. Today I was tempted to log back in 'to find an email address' and guess what?! I can't remember the password.

There is NO GOING BACK now!

It's liberating. My house is clean. I don't procrastinate online like before. I check my mail, read a blog or two, and then shut the computer. MUCH different than how I spent my computer time with facebook.

Credit Unions ARE nice. I've belonged to one since I was 16, hehe. You know, because I'm special (or because my mom had an account). You are right, they do have this shroud of secrecy or something. But our brochure says family, friends, anyone with money... is invited to join. (so not that last part, but you get the idea).
